Since going Paleo my family has fallen even more in love with our grill. Paleo and grilling just work well together. The past couple of years I've even been stepping outside my grilling comfort zone more and more. Grilling things I'd never thought to have grilled before and trying new flavor combinations. I have to say I'm pretty thrilled with the results of most of my flavor experiments. In the past I'd never have thought to grill fruit, but it's amazing. Grilling fruit and adding it to traditionally savory dishes? Brilliant. Oh yes, and? New rule: every burger recipe for the rest of forever must contain grilled pineapple. OK, maybe more of a guideline. It's a seriously delicious combination though. This Smoky Grilled Pineapple Burger is always a crowd-pleaser at my house. It's not only Paleo, but Whole30, glutenfree, lower carb, and clean eating friendly. I promise you won't miss the bun! paleo, grilled pineapple burger, smoky
Thank you to Designer Whey for sending me these two samples to review.
Personally, I have found that I feel better overall when I keep my protein intake up. I am not famished all day long even while restricting calories. I also believe with all my running and strength training that my body needs more protein right now. I love my smoothies and always use whey protein in them. On Designer Whey's website I found a great overview of the benefits of whey protein, you can read it here. I think that pretty well sums it up!
I have tried Designer Whey Plain before and liked it, but I much prefer these flavored varieties. I tried the Weight Control French Vanilla and Original Chocolate Peanut Caramel. I absolutely love them both.
The French Vanilla Weight Control I find more versatile in all the different smoothie recipes I make. It also has 5g of Fiber per serving, which I think is awesome for a protein powder. I am a chocoholic, but really love vanilla in smoothies or coffee.
The Chocolate Peanut Caramel is yummy with a capital Y. I am having it for my after workout recovery almost exclusively! I also like it for a quick afternoon snack.
I love the taste of both of these proteins. I especially love that the Weight Control has more fiber. I think fiber intake is also very important for me to not feel famished when watching my calories. Designer Whey is definitely a new favorite for me.
I have had people ask me for some of my smoothie recipes, I thought I would give you two using the Designer Whey Protein.
We have all heard that we need 5 to 9 servings of fruits and vegetables everyday. If you struggle with this, or simply want to up your nutrition my 5 a day smoothie has got your back. It has 3 veggie servings and 2 fruit servings in every smoothie! I have this for breakfast a lot. On busy or too hot days I'll even have it for lunch and feel satisfied.
You might not be able to tell by this pic, but this smoothie is very green! |
.5 cup unsweetened almond milk
2 scoops Designer Whey Weight Control Protein Powder in French Vanilla (that is one serving for that kind)
3 cups raw spinach or raw baby spinach
1 cup frozen strawberries
Blend thoroughly in your blender. Yum. You can also add a little ice if you want it a little thicker, it's pretty thick on it's own, so only if your blender can handle it ;). In my opinion the thicker the better with smoothies. I stay full longer with super thick smoothies. Mine often have the consistency of soft serve ice cream.
After a tough workout, especially running intervals, I know that I need to refuel my muscles/body, but my stomach never wants anything heavy. I find this smoothie perfect. Not as heavy on my stomach.
Kat's Workout Recovery Smoothie:
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
1 scoop Designer Whey Protein Supplement in Chocolate Peanut Caramel
Handful of ice cubes
Blend well in your blender. I don't make this one as thick, I'm not using it as a meal. If you want to make it more filling you can add a tablespoon or two of natural peanut butter, yum! I have also used Oikos Plain Greek Yogurt instead of the almond milk.

I haven't tried that brand. I'll have to check it out. I'm always looking for a new protein powder. I'll need it to beat the boys in my upcoming challenge...lol.
ReplyDeleteI worked in a health food store for 2.5 years & I'm actually a pretty big fan of hemp protein. It's just straight up ground hemp seeds. There are some brands that add additional flavoring, but i was pretty hardcore & went with the plain. The flavor is not for everyone. It's an acquired taste for sure. I would mix it with vanilla soy milk, frozen mixed berries, raw honey, & ice. My main beef with most protein powders is the myriad of uncalled for ingredients (including artificial sweeteners) & this one is all natural & bare bones.
ReplyDeleteDesigner Whey is delicious, but personally the sucralose turns me off.
Actually, if I'm correct, they may make a few that do not contain sucralose. I'm not sure if that's what you tried. Artificial sweeteners just freak me out. I don't eat a perfect diet, but there are certain things I really try to be conscious about.
ReplyDeleteYour smoothie sounds yummy. I might try that. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteGo Mrs L go!
ReplyDeletekitty, I think their plain whey is just plain whey, I try to limit artificial sweeteners, but I didn't check these, I don't mind a little in my whey, just not in everything I eat. Moderation.
JBS, thanks, I hope you like.
Designer Whey has a nice variety of high quality protein without Sucralose, and all natural. I'd definitely check them out! Their products really taste great and mix very well in smoothies.
ReplyDeleteI love smoothies! Thanks!
