Since going Paleo my family has fallen even more in love with our grill. Paleo and grilling just work well together. The past couple of years I've even been stepping outside my grilling comfort zone more and more. Grilling things I'd never thought to have grilled before and trying new flavor combinations. I have to say I'm pretty thrilled with the results of most of my flavor experiments. In the past I'd never have thought to grill fruit, but it's amazing. Grilling fruit and adding it to traditionally savory dishes? Brilliant. Oh yes, and? New rule: every burger recipe for the rest of forever must contain grilled pineapple. OK, maybe more of a guideline. It's a seriously delicious combination though. This Smoky Grilled Pineapple Burger is always a crowd-pleaser at my house. It's not only Paleo, but Whole30, glutenfree, lower carb, and clean eating friendly. I promise you won't miss the bun! paleo, grilled pineapple burger, smoky
I think (read hope) I have figured out the stall in my weight loss. I have been tracking consistently with my fitbook for about four weeks now and it has really opened my eyes.
First, I've been eating too much. Too much of good healthy foods, but too much. Especially nut butters, hugely overdoing it there.
Second, I was so focused on strength training I wasn't getting in enough cardio.
Third, about once a week or so I am having a no good, incredibly awful, terrible, outta control eating day. Not sure what's up with that.
I think I have straightened out the first two. I am trying to be much more mindful about my portions, just because it's good healthy food doesn't mean I can eat 'til I'm stuffed! Also I need to pay more attention to my hunger cues. I have been so dysfunctionally disconnected from those for too long.
My half training has upped my cardio naturally and I'm adding a short cardio session to strength training days. I'm shooting for about an hour of working out each day I workout.
The last one has me a bit baffled. I don't know why I'm allowing this. Often it's been at a picnic, BBQ, or my parents' house. And it has been a choice. Every time I've chosen that behavior of overdoing it. Now that I know these are tough places for me I need to be much more mindful of the choices I make when I'm there. I think I've sort of had the, EH, attitude. But it's screwing up my hard work!
So, that's what my fitbook has taught me. Do you track? What does it show you/help you with?
Disclaimer: I'm not affiliated with fitbook in any way.

I tracked religiously when I was doing Weight Watchers 3 years ago, and I really believe it helped me lose the weight. I've fallen off that bandwagon since then, though, and gained weight back. I'm intrigued by your Fitbook though! I may purchase my own today - it might be just what I need.
ReplyDeleteThis is a good example of what tracking can do for you. I dont track daily but occasionally I do for a reality-check and i always come away with a thought to ponder about my diet. Coincidentally my post today was on food tracking too.
ReplyDeleteI have been tracking in my blackberry and it's really been opening my eyes to emotional eating/munching/notgood stuff. Trying to get more of a handle on that.
ReplyDeleteTracking is really eye-opening! I'm with you, in that I eat mostly good food, but often too much. Portion control is the name of my beast to tame.
ReplyDeleteIronically, I'm taking a break from my Calorie tracking and am attempting to eat intuitively (it's a dangerous road, I know).
Good to hear that you've upped your cardio, too!
great job with the tracking. I have a problem with overdoing the good stuff too.
ReplyDeleteI always keep track either online or in a notebook. It really does help me to see what works and doesn't work for me.
ReplyDeleteI've also started to keep track of my workouts and it helps to remind me when i need to workout and when i need a rest.
I track in my WW Journal it really helps me to keep track of veggies and water. I tend to be oblivious to what I do/don't eat. When I don't track I always do poorly.
ReplyDeleteI have started tracking again - it is amazing what you find....and want to hide...
ReplyDeleteAnd about being dysfunctionally disconnected from hunger queues....I find it so funny when someone asks me if I am hungry. I don't know. I honest to goodness don't know. I can't remember the last time I actually felt hunger. Time to fix that.
Great job doing tracking. I haven't been doing well in that department. I track my exercise, does that count? lol
ReplyDeleteI gave you a blog award!! Come on by to see. http://tracitreasures.blogspot.com/
Thanks for outlining those three points. I also have those exact same problems.
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to let you know I left you an award on my page! Yup, I picked you as a Versatile Blogger! Stop by and pick it up!
ReplyDeleteTake care,
Maggie
Right now what works for me is to measure everything I eat at some point, in some way, before I eat it. I might throw some carrots in a tupperware, but I count them before I eat them. I even measure out cereal and milk. It might seem really dorky and annoying, but right now it's exactly what I need.
