Since going Paleo my family has fallen even more in love with our grill. Paleo and grilling just work well together. The past couple of years I've even been stepping outside my grilling comfort zone more and more. Grilling things I'd never thought to have grilled before and trying new flavor combinations. I have to say I'm pretty thrilled with the results of most of my flavor experiments. In the past I'd never have thought to grill fruit, but it's amazing. Grilling fruit and adding it to traditionally savory dishes? Brilliant. Oh yes, and? New rule: every burger recipe for the rest of forever must contain grilled pineapple. OK, maybe more of a guideline. It's a seriously delicious combination though. This Smoky Grilled Pineapple Burger is always a crowd-pleaser at my house. It's not only Paleo, but Whole30, glutenfree, lower carb, and clean eating friendly. I promise you won't miss the bun! paleo, grilled pineapple burger, smoky
Everyone please welcome Amanda from Me vs. The Bulge. Hers will be the first of a series of guest posts on 'the craziest thing I've done/tried to lose weight'. Thanks Amanda!
I've struggled with my weight for many many years and tried diet after diet looking for a quick fix solution to my weight issue. I wish I knew at the time what I know now about proper nutrition and exercise but no, I was young and silly and tried just about EVERYTHING to lose weight.
One of the silliest things I have ever tried was the Soup Diet. It was all over the TV and the magazines at the time and I was fully engrossed with the claims that you could lose up to 10lbs in a week. 10lbs in a week?! "I am so jumping all over that!", I thought.
So what did it involve? It's pretty simple really - you just eat vegetable soup for 7 days and as each day goes on you get to include another element. Eg. Day 1 you eat as much soup as you like plus any fruit except bananas. Day 2 you eat as much soup as you like plus vegetables including one baked jacket potato with a little butter. And on it goes for 7 days. Get the idea?
I made up a HUGE pot of soup and off I went. I followed the diet all week to the T. Finally it was weigh in time. I excitedly jumped on the scales ready for my 10lb weight loss. I looked down and... I didn’t lose. One. Pound. But I did gain! Oh yes, I gained. I gained a bad case of bad breath (gross), flatulence (grosser) and sloppy number 2's (grossest). I was also starving all week long and had terrible headaches.
I was so disappointed. Again, I wish I knew at the time what I know now.
So what do I know now? I've learned that when you are on restrictive diets your metabolism slows down to virtually nothing. Any weight you do lose on these quick loss plans is usually just fluid. In order to lose weight and keep it off you need to eat nutrient dense foods and exercise.
Sounds simple right? Please, ditch the quick fix diets and lose weight the right way. Your body will thank you.

LOL - How ironic, a gain. I guess this is an example of how our bodies can demand to be treated well :-)
ReplyDeleteBeen there done that! I did the "Cabbage soup" diet, which made for some terrible fuel! I had to stay away from vegetable soups for quite some time after that!
ReplyDeleteMost awful diet! Apologies, I didn't mean an actual weight gain... it was a metaphor! ;-)
ReplyDeletethis is so true! the faster you lose it this way, the faster you will gain it all back when you start eating regular food.
