Have you joined FitViews Book Club yet? Well, January is the perfect time...
If you're curious, here are the details:
We'll be meeting monthly over on Clubhouse to connect and chat about our monthly book selection.
What kinds of books will we be reading? Fitness, health, wellness, nutrition, mindset, and related topics. One month might be a memoir and the next something on mindset or habits, then maybe something on lifting or nutrition. I'll try to mix it up and keep it interesting. By joining you are in no way obligated to read every book. If one of our monthly selections doesn't float your boat or you find yourself crazy busy for a bit, just skip that month! No big deal. Then jump back in any time. I want this to be fluid and welcoming. I understand that not every book I pick will be everyone's cup of tea. No worries. Also, you aren't required to speak. You can just come, listen, and enjoy. Or feel free to raise your hand if you want to join the convo.
Any rules I need to be aware of? When I set up the club on Clubhouse it asked me if I wanted to add rules. It said "Rule #1" and of course I wanted to make a Fight Club Reference: the first rule of book club... 🤣 But really, for now I'm leaving those blank. Let's just meet and have fun and above all, be kind. I know that we may hit on some controversial topics (people can get heated over nutrition etc), but I'm confident we can all just get along! There's enough nonsense in the world, book club should be light and fun.
So, how do you join? Click here to join the club on Clubhouse. You'll have to get the Clubhouse app if you're not on there already. Then, get your hands on the book! Feel free to buy the physical book, listen to it on Audible, find it at your local library, or just come chat about it if we pick a book you've already read! Just a note, if you buy the book through links on FitViews I will earn a commission, which helps me pay the bills to keep FitViews up and running. I am of course grateful when you do that, but truly I just want everyone to join in regardless of how they get the book.
When do we meet? We'll be meeting (usually) the last Sunday of the month in the afternoon/evening. Dates and times to be announced monthly, and input of members taken, until we settle on a good time.
Enough already, so what's our January book?
Drumroll please...
Our January read will be Wired to Eat by Robb Wolf.
Most diets fail. Well, honestly, almost all diets fail. The question we must ask is “why?” Do we just need to be stronger, have more willpower, or better discipline? Maybe if we had more of those things or a “better relationship with food” we’d be able to stick with healthy changes over the long haul, right?
Wrong. We are told this story again and again, and despite our best efforts, we’re still fat, sick, and broken.
Here’s the deal: It’s not a personal failing to find modern foods, and habits irresistible. We are genetically wired to eat more and move less — the exact opposite of what we are frequently told. It’s not our fault we are in this situation, but we do need to do something different if we want a different outcome.
Our January book club will meet Sunday January 30 at 5:00 PM Mountain Time (6:00 central, 7:00 eastern, 4:00 pacific).
I hope you'll join us! Leave me book suggestions for 2022 below or tweet me.
Happy Reading!
