Since going Paleo my family has fallen even more in love with our grill. Paleo and grilling just work well together. The past couple of years I've even been stepping outside my grilling comfort zone more and more. Grilling things I'd never thought to have grilled before and trying new flavor combinations. I have to say I'm pretty thrilled with the results of most of my flavor experiments. In the past I'd never have thought to grill fruit, but it's amazing. Grilling fruit and adding it to traditionally savory dishes? Brilliant. Oh yes, and? New rule: every burger recipe for the rest of forever must contain grilled pineapple. OK, maybe more of a guideline. It's a seriously delicious combination though. This Smoky Grilled Pineapple Burger is always a crowd-pleaser at my house. It's not only Paleo, but Whole30, glutenfree, lower carb, and clean eating friendly. I promise you won't miss the bun! paleo, grilled pineapple burger, smoky
I'm sure you've all heard of Jackie Warner. I've raved about her workout DVDs on here before. Are you watching her new show Thintervention? I'm sad that I don't get Bravo so I'm reading the recaps on the blogs. Well, Jackie has a new workout coming out tomorrow (the 5th) and I was able to preview it.
For this DVD you will need: hand weights suiting your ability (beginners can start with no weights) and perhaps a mat if you're working out on a hard floor.
Personal Training With Jackie Xtreme Timesaver Training is a single 30 minute strength workout that kicks butt. This workout utilizes compound moves to train multiple muscle groups at one time. Following a brief warm-up you will do 60 second sets of each compound move and then move into the next move and of course there's a brief cool down at the end. You also have the menu option to choose just the chapters of the body parts you want to focus on. Some of the awesome compound moves include: curtsy with sidekick (while punching with weights), Plie squats with shoulder circles, and glute bridge with chest fly.
I won't mince words for those that want the cut and dry of it: I loved this workout. I enjoyed it, I was challenged, and I appreciate that it's only 30 minutes. Lately I tend towards workouts that really challenge me, this absolutely fits that bill. I whole heartedly give it 5 stars.
One thing I would like to point out is that you don't have to be an advanced exerciser for this DVD. The beginner modifications they show start you with no weights and doing modified versions of the harder moves. I thought the beginner option was very well done. You can then work your way up from there to the more advanced versions of the moves and heavier weights. I consider myself an intermediate to advanced exerciser and it kicked my butt. I love a DVD that you can grow with. Seems nice that you can get more life out of it.
The first time I tried the workout I was feeling confident from my recent workouts using mostly my 15 pound weights and occasionally my 10 pounders...knowing each move was 60 seconds I thought I'd go light and grabbed my 10's and went to work. I could only get half way through the moves before being spent! This is tough stuff. The next time I did the workout I made sure I had my 5s and 8s. Even having to use lighter weights than I'm used to it was an awesome workout. The compound moves really work your muscles and even though 60 seconds doesn't sound like much, oh, it is. I was huffing and puffing and pouring sweat; I was sore for 2 days after! Good sore. Loved it, but I was surprised given the weights workouts I'm used to. This workout will absolutely go to the top of my go to weights workouts.
Xtreme Timesaver Training will be available on amazon.com and wherever fitness videos are sold October 5th.

ReplyDeleteAnonymous, I never did this workout exclusively, so I can't really say. What I CAN say is that I highly recommend this or any of Jackie's workouts. They are very good.
