Because they are being used as snacks and even meals in the summer I try to cram as much nutrition as I can into my smoothies. My smoothie recipes get pretty creative.
I always start with a base of 1 cup almond milk and 1 scoop of protein powder. Then I add whatever I'm feeling like. Frozen fruit like strawberries, blueberries, bananas, or peaches (I find frozen fruit gives a better shake-like consistency). Or a nut butter like peanut butter, almond butter, or cashew butter (I like these with vanilla or chocolate protein powder). Random things like spinach, oats, or bee pollen (hey, I've read it's good for you!). Anything to cram my nutritional needs into these yummy summertime treats.
Lately on hot afternoons this recipe has been hitting the spot:

1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
1 scoop vanilla protein powder (I use BSN Lean Dessert Protein or Syntha 6 here)
1 cup melon balls (any kind) this is optional, I make it both ways.
1 tsp green matcha tea (it's the powdered kind, I buy online)
Handful of ice to desired consistency.
Throw that all in a blender and blend well. Yum! Reminds me a little of a Starbucks green tea frap.
