My Paleo Pregnancy Week 10

The clouds have parted, the sun has shone down, and the hallelujah chorus has risen in the background...OK, maybe a little dramatic, but I feel so much better. It's just my 10th week, so I'm not out of the woods yet, BUT the last couple of days I've felt SO. MUCH. BETTER. It's amazing how we can take for granted just feeling well.

As you could probably tell from my lack of posting, weeks 8 and 9 were tough. The 'morning' sickness was so bad that I was pretty much out of commission for two weeks! Everything made me throw up. My husband did all of the cooking, grocery shopping, and dishes the entire time. The man deserves a medal. He even had to stay home a couple of days and homeschool the kids. I'm very thankful that he works for himself and had the option.

My eating the past two weeks has been terrible. Meat and eggs have completely grossed me out. I've pretty much gone for anything that sounded good when I was able to eat. (Oh yes, ice cream happened).

Paleo Holiday Recipe - Primal Pumpkin Pie

You can't have Thanksgiving without pumpkin pie! You just can't. It's a rule. If you're primal, paleo, or even just gluten-free this can pose a real problem though.

I started playing around with a paleo pumpkin pie recipe a few years ago. I first made it with a walnut meal crust. It was OK, but then I thought I'd try it with an almond meal crust, and I have to say it's pretty dang good! I make this version every year now.

This recipe is gluten-free, paleo-friendly, and 100% no junk. I've given both primal (using dairy) and paleo options. Personally, I prefer the splurge of dairy. I mean hey, Thanksgiving comes but once a year!

Paleo Pumpkin PieCrust:
2 cups Almond Flour(I've used blanched and unblanched almond meal, both are great for this)
1/4 teaspoon Celtic Sea Salt, Fine Ground
3 tablespoons grass-fed butter melted (or Coconut Oil if you don't do dairy)

Combine ingredients and press into a pie dish. I find it easiest to just use my fingers and press u…

Paleo Holiday Recipe - Cranberry Sauce With Mandarin Oranges

I had an entire Paleo - Primal friendly Thanksgiving menu planned to share. BUT morning sickness got the best of me and I couldn't get it done in time. I still plan to post all of those recipes the next few weeks though...maybe they can still be useful for a Paleo - Primal Christmas menu?

Today I'd like to share my cranberry sauce recipe. I've never been a huge fan of cranberry sauce, but love this recipe! I hope you will too.

2 - 12 oz Packages Whole Cranberries - washed
1 1/2 Cups Water
3/4 Cup Maple Syrup or Honey (more to taste if necessary)
2 - 15 oz Cans Mandarin Oranges - drained

Add cranberries and water to a large pot. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add maple syrup and mandarin oranges. Stir. Cook for about a minute.

Top with some chopped walnuts or pecans if you prefer a little crunch.

Enjoy!

My Paleo Pregnancy Week 8 - Wordless Wednesday

My Paleo Pregnancy - Week 7

One word for this week: rough.

It's funny, I've seen paleo do so much for so many that sometimes I tend to look at it as a cure-all. Which it is obviously not.

I didn't realize it, but I think I'd talked myself into the thought that paleo would make this pregnancy a breeze. Uh, no.

While I am not as sick as I was in previous pregnancies I am still very sick. The morning sickness and fatigue have been pretty bad this week. The 'morning' sickness lasts all day, sometimes with a brief reprieve in the afternoons (right about the time the fatigue really kicks in).

As always, pregnancy serves to remind me that I am in fact not superwoman.

I've had to let some things go. Rearrange some things. Ask for help. It's a very humbling experience for me.

Workouts this week were again sporadic. I managed to do the stationary bike once and take a couple of walks. Really looking forward to this stage passing so that I can feel up to some more regular workouts! Pretty sure my …

#PaleoChat Cancelled for November and December

I've always wondered why they call it 'morning' sickness? I for one am sick pretty much all. day. long. It seems they should pick a more appropriate name, like...pregnancy induced plague? ;)

With the holidays coming up and evenings being worse for my 'morning' sickness I've decided to cancel the November and December #paleochat twitter chats.

We'll be back for January though! January's #paleochat will be January 2, 2013 at 9 PM Eastern time.

Enjoy the holidays!
