Since going Paleo my family has fallen even more in love with our grill. Paleo and grilling just work well together. The past couple of years I've even been stepping outside my grilling comfort zone more and more. Grilling things I'd never thought to have grilled before and trying new flavor combinations. I have to say I'm pretty thrilled with the results of most of my flavor experiments. In the past I'd never have thought to grill fruit, but it's amazing. Grilling fruit and adding it to traditionally savory dishes? Brilliant. Oh yes, and? New rule: every burger recipe for the rest of forever must contain grilled pineapple. OK, maybe more of a guideline. It's a seriously delicious combination though. This Smoky Grilled Pineapple Burger is always a crowd-pleaser at my house. It's not only Paleo, but Whole30, glutenfree, lower carb, and clean eating friendly. I promise you won't miss the bun! paleo, grilled pineapple burger, smoky
I have been sticking with Primal eating since the beginning of September. I did have two or three weekends that included one day of 'bad' eating. Family events, pizza, etc. Overall I am liking eating Primal and I feel it keeps me more even.
However, I'm not losing weight. I started tracking my food on Sparkpeople again so that I can take a good hard look at what I'm eating and why I'm not losing.
While eating Primal, Paleo, lower carb, etc it is very easy for me to maintain my weight (which I find encouraging for down the road). But in order to lose weight I must keep my carbs under 50, or even 40 grams per day. This may sound extreme to some, but I feel BETTER this way. Plus, it is worth it to me. While eating lower carb like this I don't have to feel famished and starved like when I'm simply eating low calorie.
Well, today's breakfast according to sparkpeople was 45 grams of carbs, well hello there problem. I also see I'm eating too many nuts. Nuts are good for us, but calorie-dense, therefore too many=no weight loss.
Tracking works. Period.
For now I will continue eating Primal and tracking it on Sparkpeople. I'm interested to see where my calories and carbs are ending up on a longer term basis. I feel great, but I do miss my oatmeal.
What do you think about Paleo/Primal eating? Have you tried it?
Overall I've still been very happy with primal eating. Aside from the issues of fueling my longer runs, it's really worked well for me. I can understand exactly what you mean about feeling better on lower carbs, and if you need less than 50 grams per day, then that's what you should shoot for. I definitely have to watch myself on the nuts too - they are very calorie dense, and easy to overdo.
ReplyDeleteI have not tried it being called primal eating but I believe I have followed a plan very similar. It does work and its good for you. Dontcha just hate it when you realize how many carbs and calories really are in our food? Bummer but at least you can make the changes to get your loss going again!
ReplyDeleteI eat about 80% primal, and it works really well for me for maintenance. I'm losing again now but will definitely go back to mostly primal/paleo when I'm ready to maintain again!
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried it- I know nothing about it. Sounds kind of like the Fat Flush though. And I keep hearing good things about Sparkpeople, so I might just have to stop in there and check that out as well. YAY!!!!
ReplyDeleteSo glad to see you back on track!! xo!

Primal is working wonderfully for me. I really thought I would miss bread, I mean GOOD bread, but its really not been a big deal at all. I am less hungry, more satisfied and the best part...I'm losing weight again!
