Body After Baby 9 Weeks Postpartum - #30dayPUSH

After two weeks 'off' I feel so much better. I feel refreshed and ready to attack this postpartum weight loss thing again.

I spent the past two weeks reflecting and getting my mindset right. One thing hit me pretty hard the other day: I have a daughter.

Obviously I want to set a good example for my boys as well, but I was looking at my sweet baby girl and I thought: I need to be the best me for you. I need to set a good example of a woman that loves and takes care of herself. WHOA. Big deal.

OK, back to square one.

What I've realized is that I've let my habits slip. From the habit of working out to the habit of meal planning. From making a to-do list to cleaning the kitchen (and with our homeschool year starting September 3rd that's no bueno). Not only were bad habits sneaking in, but good habits were slipping out. It began towards the end of my pregnancy and got progressively worse.

I've also realized that I've set NO goals this year. None. So not like me.

Paleo Breakfast Options - It's Really Not All About The Bacon

I have a confession. I don't eat bacon. I know, all Paleo folks are bacon obsessed right? Nope, not me. My dad is allergic to pork and I grew up not eating it. I do enjoy the occasional nitrate-free turkey bacon, but real bacon kind of grosses me out. I know, GASP.

So what do we eat for breakfast around here? Tons of different things!

Omelets. Endless variety here. Mix and match veggies, spices, and meats.

Scrambles. Scramble some eggs and throw in whatever sounds good!

Warrior Mix cereal. Add some almond milk or coconut milk if you're just missing that cereal feeling!

Leftovers! Don't be trapped in a 'what breakfast should be' box. I eat a lot of dinner leftovers for breakfast.

Random cravings. Sometimes it's whatever sounds good. The other day I threw some frozen diced butternut squash in a pan, added a bit of ghee (grassfed butter is good too), and cinnamon. Yum. Salads for breakfast? Love them. Again, step out of the 'what breakfast should be' box and ex…

Body After Baby 7 Weeks Postpartum - Lurking Bad Habits

This is the second version of today's post. The first version I just deleted. It was full of this is what I did wrong last week, this is why my stats are exactly the same as they've been, and this is what I'm going to do different this week.

All fine and good, BUT...

I noticed myself in the bathroom this morning looking in the mirror and despising what I saw.

Not OK.

The last week I've noticed I've been obsessing about my calories, the scale, and my lack of progress.

Not OK.

It's true that I don't feel like myself right now, at this weight. It's true that I'm a little frustrated that I've leveled off; I expected to be steadily (even if slowly) losing weight already. But regressing into old bad habits?

Not OK.

It's interesting how quickly these things I'd thought I'd completely conquered have raised their ugly heads. It seems that I've allowed being overweight again to transport me back to my old unhealthy mindsets.

Self-loathing? I beat…

Body After Baby 6 Weeks Postpartum - The 21 Day Sugar Detox Begins!

I cannot believe it's been 6 weeks. The time has zipped by.
Looking back I'm happy at how I handled the first 6 weeks postpartum. I rested, I healed, I was lightly active as I was able. I listened to my body. I was gentle with my sleep deprived self.
Other than the initial post-birth weight loss the first 2 weeks I didn't lose any weight. I'm totally good with that.
Stats this week: Weight: 196
Bust: 44 1/2
Waist: 37
Hips: 44
Clothing Size: 13/14
I am super excited to be at the 6 week mark. Last night I had hubby drag this out for me: We were painting and moving things around during my last trimester so I had packed up most of my fitness DVDs. I couldn't do most of them anyway. So. Danged. Excited. To rip into them again.
BUT, I need to take it slow. I know my fitness is not what it was pre-pregnancy. This week will be spent trying out workouts, modifying where needed, and finding out where my fitness level is.
I had planned to jump straight into a program at 6 weeks, but dec…

Crustless Paleo Breakfast Quiche Recipe

Since hubby and I are doing the 21 Day Sugar Detox for the next 3 weeks I took some time today to do some food prep. It's just too easy to stare into the refrigerator and say, "There's nothing to eat!" when eating only real, whole foods. Food prep is my secret weapon for being successful with Paleo eating in general and definitely for things like the Detox (or Whole30).
Hubby is the worst at running out of the house without breakfast, so one of the things I made was this Crustless Paleo Breakfast Quiche. It's a super easy make-ahead breakfast recipe.
Crustless Paleo Breakfast QuicheIngredients18 eggs
1 yellow onion - diced
1 red pepper - diced
8 oz mushrooms - diced
1 Tablespoon coconut oil
1 tsp sea salt
1 tsp chili powder

Directions Melt 1 Tablespoon coconut oil in a skillet heated to medium. Saute the onions until they begin to brown.

Add the diced mushrooms and cook 3 to 4 minutes until soft. Set aside to cool.

Beat the eggs, sea salt, and chili powder. Add the onions…

KETO Cocktails: The Lemon Drop

I love a good glass of red wine now and then, I mean it's practically a health food, right? ;) But sometimes I just want a cocktail. I'm all for moderation and having a drink now and then, but I'm just not down with the calorie, carb, and sugar counts of some of my favorites. Seriously, have you ever looked them up? Eek. So, I've set to work at converting my favorite cocktail recipes to be more keto diet friendly!

The first cocktail recipe I'm tackling is the keto lemon drop. I used to love these, but haven't had one in years because of the sugar in them. In my early twenties I had a friend who used to make them for me all the time. We would have a shaker full of these, a good dinner, and a chick flick on a weeknight, it was kind of bliss. Her recipe called for so. much. SUGAR though! Looking back I think she may have used a wee bit more sugar than most, but they were really good.

I think my keto-ized recipe comes pretty dang close to those delicious memories! It…

Cinnamon Vanilla KETO Coffee Creamer Recipe

There are tons of keto coffee creamer products flooding the market right now. Some are fantastic options. Some chock full of nasty ingredients. But most of them are on the pricey side.

I decided to work on some clean, more budget-friendly, keto coffee creamer recipes we can easily make at home! (Check out my Keto Peppermint Mocha Coffee Creamer too.)⠀

This dairy-free Cinnamon Vanilla Keto Coffee Creamer is definitely one of my favorites. I just love cinnamon coffees. They're delicious. Plus, cinnamon is supposed to be good for blood sugar control. Win-win.

What is 75 Hard #75Hard: Documenting My Experience With The 75 Hard Challenge

January 1, I embarked on an interesting journey; I decided to start the 75 Hard Challenge (scroll to the bottom of the post for my updated journal on my progress. I've gotten a lot of questions on this program and what it is exactly, what the rules are, etc. So...

What is 75 Hard? It's a mental toughness skills development challenge started by Andy Frisella. His premise is that mental toughness is a skill and therefore can be learned, practiced, and honed. Andy designed this challenge to cultivate: confidence, self-belief, self-esteem, self-worth, endurance, fortitude, grit, perseverance, self-discipline, endurance, resilience... and all of the skills inside the scope of mental toughness.  Check out the podcast that started it all for all the info from Andy himself: https://andyfrisella.com/blogs/mfceo-project-podcast/75hard-a-75-day-tactical-guide-to-winning-the-war-with-yourself-with-andy-frisella-mfceo291 Note that if f-bombs are going to offend you this is not for you.

Paleo Smoky Grilled Pineapple Burgers

Since going Paleo my family has fallen even more in love with our grill. Paleo and grilling just work well together. The past couple of years I've even been stepping outside my grilling comfort zone more and more. Grilling things I'd never thought to have grilled before and trying new flavor combinations. I have to say I'm pretty thrilled with the results of most of my flavor experiments.

In the past I'd never have thought to grill fruit, but it's amazing. Grilling fruit and adding it to traditionally savory dishes? Brilliant.

Oh yes, and? New rule: every burger recipe for the rest of forever must contain grilled pineapple. OK, maybe more of a guideline. It's a seriously delicious combination though.

This Smoky Grilled Pineapple Burger is always a crowd-pleaser at my house. It's not only Paleo, but Whole30, glutenfree, lower carb, and clean eating friendly. I promise you won't miss the bun!

Keto Paleo Friendly Coffee Creamer Recipe

Going keto paleo has me missing one thing: the organic grass-fed half-and-half I'd been having in my coffee. Since going paleo over a year ago I've searched and searched and just never found anything else I love in my coffee. I'd just about given up on a keto paleo-friendly coffee creamer!

I was almost to resign myself to black coffee forever, but then I decided to resort again to trying to make my own. This version is simple and quite delicious. Not only is it keto paleo, but Whole30 and 21 Day Sugar Detox friendly as well.

Keto Paleo Cinnamon Vanilla Coffee Creamer
Ingredients
1 can Organic Canned Coconut Milk(the kind in the carton just won't do it)
1 teaspoon Cinnamon Vietnamese Organic
1 teaspoon Organic Pure Vanilla for 100% Whole30 compliant swap for vanilla powder
2 teaspoons raw local honey or Organic Maple Syrup (optional, leave out for KETO, Whole30, or 21DSD)

Directions
Blend all ingredients well in your blender. Store in the refrigerator (the cinnamon tends to set…

A Day In The Life: My Fitness, Food, and Supplement Routine

A group of my fitness blogger friends decided to do Day in the Life posts today. I get a lot of questions about my routine. My Paleo eats, how much I work out, what supplements I take, how I fit in my blogging/freelance/work...stuff like that. I thought joining and doing a day in my life post would be fun and a great way to answer all of those questions at once!

This was yesterday (Tuesday 1/20). It was a pretty average day for me.

4:30 AM My alarm on my phone goes off. I get up, get dressed in my workout clothes, and take my pre-workout (it says to take it 30-60 minutes before your workout, I shoot for 30). This is a new supp for me and I'm still just taking 1 to see how it goes. I also take my Acetyl L-Carnitine because the bottle says to take it on an empty stomach.
Sometimes I hit snooze until 5, but I'm trying hard not to do that. A lot of people say to sleep in your workout clothes to save time, but that doesn't work for me. What does work for me is to have my workout …

New Science To Help Us Age Healthier? Yes, Please. #MitoQ

If we're friends on Facebook you know that I just turned 39 last month. I embrace that. I look forward to making my last year in the 30's amazing and cruising into my 40's in style. I firmly believe in embracing our years. Our age. I believe in being the most amazing, healthy, fabulous US we can be at every age! I have no desire to be (or even look) 25 again.

But, I'm not going to lie. I feel it. I see it. I look in the mirror and notice those little lines. Spots. Hrmmm. So, when I was offered the opportunity to try out MitoQ supplements and skin cream I paused... I researched... I was intrigued!

I love this brand. I love their focus on healthy aging. Yes. THAT.
A Little Info on MitoQ

30 Easy Prep and Pack Whole30 Lunch Recipes

The Whole30Program is amazing. I highly recommend it. Every time I've done a Whole 30 I have felt AMAZING by the end. It's a very empowering experience. It is not however an easy one. Mostly because the food prep can take much more time if you're used to grab and go options. A little planning ahead and you can definitely make it through the 30 days.

When it comes to Whole30 lunches, 3 things worked best for me:

Quick and easy salads.Prepping food on Sunday.Cooking too much at dinner and eating leftovers for lunch the next day.
I thought I'd share 30 of the awesome Whole30 lunch recipes I've found from my favorite bloggers (and a few from me!). I've included all three options I listed above. Some quick and easy salads, some to prep an entire recipe on the weekend and then portion them for lunches that week, and some to be cooked for dinner and the leftovers packed for lunch the next day. Play around and see what works best for you.

A Month of Whole30 Dinner Recipes Your Whole Family Will Love!

If you're doing a Whole30 chances are your whole family isn't doing it with you. In the past I've found that this can be a bit overwhelming when it comes to food prep. Making every meal completely separate is just a lot to do. One solution I have found is to make family-friendly Whole30 dinner recipes. That way, at least for one meal, I was just making one meal that everyone would eat.

I thought I'd share some of the great Whole 30 dinner recipes I've found from my favorite bloggers (and my own recipes are in there too!). 30 Whole30 dinner recipes to be exact! This list should help you cruise through an entire month of Whole30 with great family friendly dinners.
