Since going Paleo my family has fallen even more in love with our grill. Paleo and grilling just work well together. The past couple of years I've even been stepping outside my grilling comfort zone more and more. Grilling things I'd never thought to have grilled before and trying new flavor combinations. I have to say I'm pretty thrilled with the results of most of my flavor experiments. In the past I'd never have thought to grill fruit, but it's amazing. Grilling fruit and adding it to traditionally savory dishes? Brilliant. Oh yes, and? New rule: every burger recipe for the rest of forever must contain grilled pineapple. OK, maybe more of a guideline. It's a seriously delicious combination though. This Smoky Grilled Pineapple Burger is always a crowd-pleaser at my house. It's not only Paleo, but Whole30, glutenfree, lower carb, and clean eating friendly. I promise you won't miss the bun! paleo, grilled pineapple burger, smoky
I'm playing with my blog look again, trying to clean it up and make it less cluttered. What do ya think?
I've also added some ads. Hope they don't annoy, but a bloggers gotta pay the bills! Yes, I make money when you click on my ads. Or so I'm told, haven't actually had it happen yet, lol.
What are your plans for the 4th? We have 3 BBQs to go to! Ugh, not sure how exactly that happened, but lots of family, so it should be fun. Just busy, busy.
My holiday game plan has always been the same. I watch my food a little closer the week before. Up my workout intensity a little the week before and after. Then, at the events I only 'splurge' on the things I really want and think I will truly enjoy, not just any junky treat. I eat sensibly otherwise. But if there's some good lookin' brownies somewhere you can bet I'll be having one. That way I don't feel deprived, yet don't feel like crap from over-eating, well, crap.
This year I'm contemplating that strategy a little. I'm still doing the week before/after thing as usual, but the splurging is what I'm re-thinking. I've gone completely off of sugar and artificial sugar. At my 16 year old's birthday party a little while back I splurged and I had cake, ice cream, chips and diet soda. I then proceeded to feel like crap for 2 days after that. Sugar and junky carbs just do not sit well with me!
So...what do you think, is the feeling of NOT depriving myself worth the sugar coma after?
What is your game plan?
like the blog look and sounds like a good plan for the holiday. Good luck with it.smile.
ReplyDeleteI like the layout but wish it weren't so white. I'm a color kind a gal! :O) Thankfully I only have one bbq to go to. I've been watching my food a little closer this last week and plan on doing that for the months to come. I'm also scaling back on the "splurges" except for my birthday (which is the 8th). I'm not going to hold myself accountable that day! NO just kidding..I will have more to eat that day BUT not go over board (that's so yesterday!! :) have fun.
ReplyDeleteI think it sounds like you have a great plan. I still struggle with special events and am a bit nervous about this weekend.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to several potlucks this weekend, and I'm sticking to the "one bite" rule. I can have ONE bite of anything I want: burgers, cake, fries, potato salad, whatever. I've cut out a lot of sugars and preservatives, but I'd rather be happy than feel deprived! Then, the next day, I feel like I really enjoyed the party, but I don't feel like I ate myself sick (because I didn't!).
ReplyDeleteHappy 4th!
It will be a challenging SUnday at our house. We are having family over and I'll have the grills in high gear, we are planning a Beer Can Chicken, a Smoked Chicken, several racks of Ribs and a Bacon Explosion, maybe more. Oh, and some salad :-)
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great plan Kat!
ReplyDeleteHaving a game-plan is a great idea...perhaps you could "scope out" the food table prior to fixing your plate...choose mostly healthy foods, with one or two indulgences.
ReplyDeleteI like your new look...I read in a magazine that this one lady was actually able to make a living off of her ads...not the norm, I'm sure, but if you get enough followers and encourage them to click, it couldn't hurt!
Sugarcoma:
ReplyDeletefor me the answer is definitely sometimes :)
Before I was full on intuitively eating Id plan that "ok it's yada yada yada so that day Ill end up having cake" and I found that my sugar hangover was BAAAAD.
now when its in the moment "oh, here I am at annas party and theres cake. I think I will have a piece" The coma is less.
not sure why that is or, Kat, if this makes sense as it does in my head :)
I can't answer the question about the sugar coma--it seems to me like it's not worth it--but I'm the guy who would be willing to have a carb coma, so who am I to talk??
ReplyDeleteRE: the new look and ads...I like the new cleaner look! The ads? Don't bother me at all. And just for you, I clicked on all of them!! Cha-ching!!
I'm sure your weekend plan will be a success. I would say the sugar coma isn't worth it since you've said you feel awful for two days (two days is a long time)! Instead of thinking about what you can't have, why don't you bring something you like to eat, like a fruit tray, and put it with the desserts? Then hopefully other people will be encouraged to have a fruit dessert too!
ReplyDeleteAs for my weekend, I'm going to be packing so I can start my move to Boulder! Yay for not commuting!! Hopefully I'll get in a bike ride and run too.
I don't think the ads get in the way too much, especially since they interspersed with content instead of being a big block somewhere. I love the new uncluttered look and if you wouldn't mind, I'd love to send you an email with a few more tweaks that might help with uncluttering and a tiny bit with usability.
