2011...It's Almost Here!

The 4 Hour Body...Hype or Help?

I'm starting a new series on my blog for the new year. I call it: Hype or Help? This is not simply another product review. Instead, I'll be taking the latest, 'greatest' diet, workout, or gadget and putting it through the paces, following their instructions and putting it to the test. I'll be testing out their claims and finding out myself if they live up to them, are they hype or help?

The blogs, Twitter, and You Tube are all a-buzz about Tim Ferriss's new book: The 4 Hour Body. Aha! My first victim, er test.

This book makes some pretty amazing claims. Like the diet can help you lose up to 20 lbs of fat in 30 days. I'm excited to put these claims to the test. I was going to start January 1, but that seems so...not me. I'm just not the I'll start Monday, I'll start January 1st, blah, blah, blah type. So, starting today, I will be following this book to the letter for 30 days. The diet, the supplement suggestions, everything. Well, probably no ice…

2011 Journal Exercises

I'm starting something new here on my blog and I hope many of you will join in. Starting some time in the first week of 2011 you will start seeing **2011 Journal Exercise as individual posts, or included with posts. Basically they are journal prompts for all of us to do. I think journaling is a hugely beneficial practice and I want to share that with you all. You can blog your response (leave a comment on the specific post with the link if you do that), leave it in the comments, or simply do what I'll be doing and start a spiral notebook dedicated to this.

We're all on similar journeys, whether it be to lose weight, get fit, reach a goal, or just become the best us we can be. I think participating, joining in, and benefiting from the community support will be awesome.

Whenever you see in red: **2011 Journal Exercise that's our latest journal prompt. I will be adding a tab which will include all the journal exercises up to join in at anytime and lets make this…

Looking Forward to 2011

I'm not exactly sure why I am so excited for the coming new year...but I am. I think it has a lot to do with what I believe 2011 holds; the goals and plans I have for this sparkling, shiny new year. Oh yes, I am going to CRUSH it in 2011. I generally laugh at the whole 'new year, new you' hooplah, but this year I go into this new year feeling like I truly AM a new me.

2011 will be my year to:

Set clear written goals with the action steps I will take towards reaching them.Build healthy habits, for good, habits, one at a time.Continue on my course of trying new things and honing in on what works for me.Pay attention to and taking care of my body/mind/spirit.Reach my goal weight, I'm setting that at 140-145...but not in stone, as I fall further in love with muscle and weights we'll see where I wind up.Make a career not just a hobby of my writing.Get to the best me I can be one habit, one positive thought, one affirmation, one good choice at a time.Meet a ton of great p…

What I Learned in 2010

What a year it's been. I've had huge successes and I've failed some. I've kicked some butt and I've fallen off the wagon. I've faced a lot of fears and let a few win. I've lost some weight and I've gained some weight. But this year overall I have  learned more about myself and made bigger strides in being a healthier (mind and body) me than the previous 33!

So here it is, as concisely as I can manage, what I learned in 2010:

I'm a food addict, an emotional eater, a compulsive eater, and a binge eater. Quite the combination. I've learned oodles about how to deal with these issues, but I've also learned not to give SHAME about these things power over my life.To like myself, to love myself, and how important taking care of myself is.I'll never be perfect and that's OK.There are tons of good, supportive, positive people out there and it's vitally important that I surround myself with them.To reach out, to ask for help, and that it'…

Weigh In

Humph. Yes, that is the technical term.

OK, I weighed this morning and it said 181. That is .5 more lost. But it's for two weeks. I won't lie, this frustrates me. BUT it doesn't define me or the hard work I've put in this month. I've lost 3 pounds so far. Onward I say!

I'm not even going to mull over the reasons for this number or what this means for reaching my goal this month. I AM going to continue to kick butt the rest of this year. Period.

Diet and Narcolepsy

I realize this won’t exactly pertain to most of my readers, but on the off chance someone could find it in a search and be helped, I am posting it anyway. The rest of us could use this story as a reminder of the power of our diet!
As some of you know, my husband has narcolepsy. I realize most people’s knowledge of narcolepsy is limited to a silly scene from a movie. But, it is something my husband has struggled with for many years.  He has sleep apnea and cataplexy also.
He so struggled with his condition that when we got married he didn’t want to have kids because it is possibly genetic. I responded with, “I’m sure glad your parents had you!” Point made. He’s such a good father, and our kids are amazing, I’m glad he changed his mind on that.
Up until recently his doctor has told him that he had the most severe case of narcolepsy he’d ever seen (he is a sleep disorder specialist). My husband, even while on medications, was prone to multiple naps daily, the sudden, uncontrollable urge to…

Day 5 My Favorite Things Giveaway--VitaTops Anyone?

Um, yes please! OK, if you've hung around my twitter or blog very long you know I'm head over heels in love with all things vitalicious. I've tried the others, but nothing quite measures up.

While most years I'd be feasting on Christmas candies, cookies, fudge, you name it...this year I'm making smarter choices with my VitaTops. Totally decadent and they keep me from feeling that 'diet frustration' we can get this time of year when we feel deprived.

The generous folks over at are helping me celebrate my one year blog anniversary by giving: One of their super samplers to one lucky commenter!

My Favorite Things Giveaways Day 3

I've been thinking today about all the things I've learned in 2010. It's been such a great year and I'm beyond excited for 2011, it's going to be an awesome year! Might I say a kick@## year? Yes, I think so. I honestly don't think I've ever been this positive/excited at the New Year. Day 1 My Favorite Things Giveaways

Friday is my official one year blog anniversary...hooray! I can't believe it's been a year already. All at once it feels like I've been blogging forever and like it was just yesterday I started. I've been reminiscing a lot the last week about this past year and you know what? It's been pretty amazing. Life changing, really.

I remember so many fun things, like #getmizonellen, or how about tweavesdropping on #biglove on twitter, our fun #SFCFit chats, or #weightsareforgirls...the year in hashtags? My first ever guest post, coming clean on a merry life, kicking my inner fat chick to the's been a great year.
I've made new friends, learned so much, and I'm oh so thankful for all of it. The ups, the downs, and everything in between.
I'm also grateful for all of the awesome companies I have worked with over this year. I contacted a few of my favorites and they have graciously offered to host some giveaways this week!

Review: Personal Training With Jackie Crunch-Free Xtreme Abs

I haven't met a Jackie Warner workout DVD that I didn't love, and this is no exception.

I have been looking for a good core workout for almost a year now. Although I am in pretty good shape, if I do say so myself, my core is weak. I notice it most in my running and know it would improve that and more if I corrected it. In my search to remedy my weak core I've tried many, many core workouts, and this is by far my new favorite.

Crunch-Free Xtreme Abs is an awesome workout, I give it 5 stars, hands down. It is exactly what I've been looking for in a core workout.

The moves are not what I've found in typical core workouts (she means it when she says crunch-free) and I love that. As I've been doing some pretty tough workouts lately I was surprised that I could not complete all the moves. There were several in the floor work routine that I could only do half-way through and I was toast and had to go to the beginner modifications. I find this a good thing! It tells me t…

First December Goal Weigh In

This post will be short and sweet as I have a regular review post scheduled to go up in a bit...

My goal is 14.5 lbs this month...

Last week on the 1st I weighed 184...

This morning I weighed....

Not quite the 3 pound goal, but I'll take it and run...literally, lol.

Blogger Labels

Healthy living bloggers, foodie bloggers, fitness bloggers, runner bloggers, weight loss bloggers...are just some of the labels I hear.

And I wonder: where do I fit? What am I, exactly?

I've tossed around the label healthy living blogger in some of my bios..but that doesn't seem quite right. I run, but am I a running blogger? I eat, but my blog isn't just about food, so I guess scratch foodie blogger off the list (somehow I don't think I'm cool enough for that niche anyway). I'm big into fitness, but am I a fit blogger? I don't quite feel qualified. Weight loss blogger I can identify with most I guess...but that doesn't really tell the whole picture. My blog is a lot about product there such a niche?

I struggle with these labels. To which niche do I belong? Which blogger label do I affix proudly to my bios? Which tribe do I call home?

No clue. But what I do know is that I love my little blog here and plan to keep doing what I've done the …

The Month I Lost 14.5 Pounds

That is what December 2010 will be remembered as.

Before you start lecturing me about 1 to 2 pounds a week, yada yada. Please hear my heart on this.

I set a goal of ringing in the New Year in the 160's. Then proceeded to mess around and go from 184 to 187 and now back to 184 since then. I have a habit of doing this in my life and I have had enough.

I didn't run my half marathon. I didn't enter to win a Fitbloggin ticket. I haven't finished my book. I sit right now at about the same weight I was last year this time. I get right up to the line where I can see success and good things and I fold. I've always prided myself in life as being someone who DOES what she says she is going to do. But is that true? Sure I've got excuses, and reasons (excuses in disguise), but the fact is: I'm afraid.

Fear is STILL holding me back. ENOUGH!

I made that goal and come hell or high water I am going to see it through. Period.

This is not about starvation or crazy antics. This is a…

KETO Cocktails: The Lemon Drop

I love a good glass of red wine now and then, I mean it's practically a health food, right? ;) But sometimes I just want a cocktail. I'm all for moderation and having a drink now and then, but I'm just not down with the calorie, carb, and sugar counts of some of my favorites. Seriously, have you ever looked them up? Eek. So, I've set to work at converting my favorite cocktail recipes to be more keto diet friendly!

The first cocktail recipe I'm tackling is the keto lemon drop. I used to love these, but haven't had one in years because of the sugar in them. In my early twenties I had a friend who used to make them for me all the time. We would have a shaker full of these, a good dinner, and a chick flick on a weeknight, it was kind of bliss. Her recipe called for so. much. SUGAR though! Looking back I think she may have used a wee bit more sugar than most, but they were really good.

I think my keto-ized recipe comes pretty dang close to those delicious memories! It…

What is 75 Hard #75Hard: Documenting My Experience With The 75 Hard Challenge

January 1, I embarked on an interesting journey; I decided to start the 75 Hard Challenge (scroll to the bottom of the post for my updated journal on my progress. I've gotten a lot of questions on this program and what it is exactly, what the rules are, etc. So...

What is 75 Hard? It's a mental toughness skills development challenge started by Andy Frisella. His premise is that mental toughness is a skill and therefore can be learned, practiced, and honed. Andy designed this challenge to cultivate: confidence, self-belief, self-esteem, self-worth, endurance, fortitude, grit, perseverance, self-discipline, endurance, resilience... and all of the skills inside the scope of mental toughness.  Check out the podcast that started it all for all the info from Andy himself: Note that if f-bombs are going to offend you this is not for you.

Cinnamon Vanilla KETO Coffee Creamer Recipe

There are tons of keto coffee creamer products flooding the market right now. Some are fantastic options. Some chock full of nasty ingredients. But most of them are on the pricey side.

I decided to work on some clean, more budget-friendly, keto coffee creamer recipes we can easily make at home! (Check out my Keto Peppermint Mocha Coffee Creamer too.)⠀

This dairy-free Cinnamon Vanilla Keto Coffee Creamer is definitely one of my favorites. I just love cinnamon coffees. They're delicious. Plus, cinnamon is supposed to be good for blood sugar control. Win-win.

Paleo Smoky Grilled Pineapple Burgers

Since going Paleo my family has fallen even more in love with our grill. Paleo and grilling just work well together. The past couple of years I've even been stepping outside my grilling comfort zone more and more. Grilling things I'd never thought to have grilled before and trying new flavor combinations. I have to say I'm pretty thrilled with the results of most of my flavor experiments.

In the past I'd never have thought to grill fruit, but it's amazing. Grilling fruit and adding it to traditionally savory dishes? Brilliant.

Oh yes, and? New rule: every burger recipe for the rest of forever must contain grilled pineapple. OK, maybe more of a guideline. It's a seriously delicious combination though.

This Smoky Grilled Pineapple Burger is always a crowd-pleaser at my house. It's not only Paleo, but Whole30, glutenfree, lower carb, and clean eating friendly. I promise you won't miss the bun!

30 Easy Prep and Pack Whole30 Lunch Recipes

The Whole30Program is amazing. I highly recommend it. Every time I've done a Whole 30 I have felt AMAZING by the end. It's a very empowering experience. It is not however an easy one. Mostly because the food prep can take much more time if you're used to grab and go options. A little planning ahead and you can definitely make it through the 30 days.

When it comes to Whole30 lunches, 3 things worked best for me:

Quick and easy salads.Prepping food on Sunday.Cooking too much at dinner and eating leftovers for lunch the next day.
I thought I'd share 30 of the awesome Whole30 lunch recipes I've found from my favorite bloggers (and a few from me!). I've included all three options I listed above. Some quick and easy salads, some to prep an entire recipe on the weekend and then portion them for lunches that week, and some to be cooked for dinner and the leftovers packed for lunch the next day. Play around and see what works best for you.

This list of 30 Whole30 Lunch Reci…

KETO Hot Cocoa Pancakes

OK, I know I've been on quite the low carb pancake tangent lately, but THESE! Seriously, these are yummtastic. Yummazing? Ya, they're really good. They just might be my favorite recipe I've ever done. Ever. OK, that might be my paleo apple crisp recipe, but that's not low, I wonder if I could tweak that low carb...

That would be brilliant!

You know, bloggers area always talking seo this and seo that (seo stands for search engine optimization if you're not a blogger) and I'm just over here yammering. I'm pretty sure when google's spider crawlers (anyone shiver at that word picture? eesh) get to FitViews they just think, "Yeesh, move along. Nothing to see here." Ha ha ha!

Anyway, pancakes. KETO Hot Cocoa Low Carb Pancakes no less. So good.

As I've mentioned before I'm back to low carb (keto actually) and developing new recipes to make it easier to stick with. I find I just plain feel great when I eat ketogenic, and I definitely h…

Keto Paleo Friendly Coffee Creamer Recipe

Going keto paleo has me missing one thing: the organic grass-fed half-and-half I'd been having in my coffee. Since going paleo over a year ago I've searched and searched and just never found anything else I love in my coffee. I'd just about given up on a keto paleo-friendly coffee creamer!

I was almost to resign myself to black coffee forever, but then I decided to resort again to trying to make my own. This version is simple and quite delicious. Not only is it keto paleo, but Whole30 and 21 Day Sugar Detox friendly as well.

Keto Paleo Cinnamon Vanilla Coffee Creamer
1 can Organic Canned Coconut Milk(the kind in the carton just won't do it)
1 teaspoon Cinnamon Vietnamese Organic
1 teaspoon Organic Pure Vanilla for 100% Whole30 compliant swap for vanilla powder
2 teaspoons raw local honey or Organic Maple Syrup (optional, leave out for KETO, Whole30, or 21DSD)

Blend all ingredients well in your blender. Store in the refrigerator (the cinnamon tends to set…

Vanilla Maple Iced Coffee

It's no secret that I'm madly in love with coffee. Hot coffee, iced coffee, plain coffee, flavored coffee, espresso, latte, cappuccino... you name it I want to marinate in it.

People often ask me if coffee is Paleo. My answer: maybe not strict Paleo, but I. Don't. Care. Cavemen did NOT drink coffee some declare. To this I reply: I am convinced that cavepeople of my ancestral line were roasting beans, crushing them, and pouring hot water over them thousands of years ahead of their time.

OK, but seriously, I am Paleo because of the benefits I have seen eating this way. My food choices are more about how a food affects me than whether or not a caveman consumed it. Also, generally speaking, I think most people drink coffee on Paleo.

Whether or not coffee itself is Paleo, the things we add to it can be absolutely NOT Paleo. I am definitely known to splurge on a (non-Paleo) Starbucks now and then, but most of the time I prefer to keep my coffee concoctions Paleo.

This iced-coffee …

The Killer Jillian 30-Day Workout Rotation #killerjillian

If you've visited FitViews before you have probably noticed I'm rather fond of Jillian Michaels at-home workouts. I own virtually all she has and have reviewed many on this blog. They're just good, solid workouts that give me great results.
I'm particularly fond of Jillian programs, calendars, and challenges. I've blogged through Body Revolution and BodyShred. I vlogged through the 30 Day Shred. Pretty much every Jillian challenge set forth I've delightedly owned.
But I'm feeling a bit "been there done that" lately. I want a new Jillian challenge. Something fresh, something challenging, something different. Something new to motivate me and push me. So, I decided to come up with my own! I'm calling it the #KillerJillian Challenge.

The #KillerJillianBefore I launch into the calendar, a little disclaimer: This challenge is in no way endorsed by Jillian Michaels. It's just a for-fun workout calendar I came up with. Also, I'm not a trainer, d…
