Paleo Smoky Grilled Pineapple Burgers

Since going Paleo my family has fallen even more in love with our grill. Paleo and grilling just work well together. The past couple of years I've even been stepping outside my grilling comfort zone more and more. Grilling things I'd never thought to have grilled before and trying new flavor combinations. I have to say I'm pretty thrilled with the results of most of my flavor experiments.  In the past I'd never have thought to grill fruit, but it's amazing. Grilling fruit and adding it to traditionally savory dishes? Brilliant. Oh yes, and? New rule: every burger recipe for the rest of forever must contain grilled pineapple. OK, maybe more of a guideline. It's a seriously delicious combination though. This Smoky Grilled Pineapple Burger is always a crowd-pleaser at my house. It's not only Paleo, but Whole30, glutenfree, lower carb, and clean eating friendly. I promise you won't miss the bun!  paleo, grilled pineapple burger, smoky

Breaking a Pattern

I have this pattern in my life. I have a dream, I set a goal, I decide I want something...then I set out to achieve it...then, at some point along the way I freak out and start sabotaging myself. This has been the pattern all my life. I'm afraid of success, I feel I don't deserve it. Crazy enough, at the same time, I have huge fear of failure, but somehow if I can look back and see I caused the failure it's 'better'. Ya, nice. I had a goal, maybe a vain one, but it was important to this here blogger that struggles with her self esteem: look great for fitbloggin. (I can't believe I'm admitting this.) I started out doing great, then, well then came the freakout, and the binges, and the gaining of the weight. Well, I managed to turn things around a while ago and the scale started slowly going down again, but I wasn't trying my best either. A few weeks ago I screamed: ENOUGH! I will. Not. Sabotage my enjoyment of fitbloggin. I. Will. Not. (OK,

Meet My Fitbloggin Sponsor

You've probably heard me blog or tweet about Coach's Oats before. I really do love these oats and this company.  I love that first came the love, then came the sponsorship. It just feels right that way. I hope that every conference I am blessed enough to be sponsored for works the same way. Today I'd like to introduce YOU to Coach's Oats.  First I'd like to share a little about the company, the oats, the history (I've taken this from their site, no need to re-write perfection): Lynn and Bonnie Rogers invented Coach’s Oats in their home kitchen in 1992. Lynn was the women’s gymnastics coach at California State University-Fullerton, where he was known by most as “Coach.” Bonnie worked as a graphic designer. That winter, they decided to make a special holiday breakfast for their friends. Coach and Bonnie  loved steel cut oatmeal, but it took too long to cook, and rolled oats turned mushy and pasty. So they did what Coach always taught his athletes to do

Supreme 90 Day System Hype or Help?

Yesterday I started day 1 of my newest Hype or Help Experiment: the  Supreme 90 Day System. I will be reviewing this workout system for the next 30 days and reporting my results. You can see my initial thoughts and what comes with this package in this video: First, just so we're all on the same page, a few things I will be tweaking: Yes, it is a 90 day system. I am not however willing to commit to 90 days at the moment. I am hoping to do the Denver Rock n Roll Half Marathon October 9th. So, I'll need to start half training June or July. I may or may not decide to finish out the 90 days and add this system onto half training. Point being, who knows! Whatever I decide I think that 30 days should give a good idea of whether this workout is hype or help. I am not going to be doing the nutrition plan that comes with this, just the workouts. Most likely I will be doing the nutrition plan from Body Confidence. I will be deviating from the workout calendar they have mapped

Supreme 90 Day Out of the Box Review and Initial Thoughts

I laugh at my workout snobbery. When I first saw this workout around and even when I first received this set (yep, there's the disclaimer, slipped in, I received this from the PR company FTC) I thought it would be cheesy. In fact, had I not received this I probably would have passed it by and never tried it. Lesson learned, you can't judge a workout by its cover either ;) I am very impressed with this workout system, low cost or no. My initial thoughts: You can purchase this set at Walgreens, Bed Bath & Beyond, Sports Authority, and Dick's sporting Goods. You will need dumbbells and an exercise ball for these workouts. If you are someone who wants to workout at home you probably already have these (or should get them!). So, yes the packaging is a little cheap, but for $19.99! I am amazed. It is a good nutrition plan that's included. Complete with a 28 day meal plan, a few recipes, and a shopping list. The workouts I've tried so far are awesome (Tabata

The Firm Express thin in 30--Week 2 Review and Results

Well, this week's results are a bit perplexing to me. I weighed in at 189.5 that's 1.5 pounds up from last week. BF % 34.9 that's .2 down from two weeks ago. Not going to over-analyze. I kept my calories between 1600-1800. My workouts were The Firm Express schedule, plus I added a 20 minute Insanity workout and a 3 mile run for the week. This week I am going to shoot for keeping my calories 1500-1600 and I will be upping my exercise. Still keeping with The Firm Express program, but adding in much more cardio. I think it's important to know my own body and know what it needs to get results.  I am just a blogger, not a doctor, trainer, or any sort of professional. What you read here are my personal experiences and opinions. Of course, always consult your doctor before trying a diet, supplement, or new workout program.

The 4-11

I just want to take a timeout for a very important person on a very important day... Today, the love of my life turns 40. On here I mostly call him 'hubby', but his name is Darran and he is awesome.  He is my best friend. He is a fantastic father. He is an amazing husband. He is a hard worker. He is a good person...deep down in his heart good . He loves playing Legos with his boys, he works very hard so that I can stay home and homeschool our kids, and he can fix anything (really, anything). And I, well I feel beyond blessed to call him my own. My life is a better life because of him. I am a better me because of him. While he doesn't always read this blog...today is HIS day and I wanted to share a bit of him with you all. So, Dear, if you are reading this: I love you, you are awesome...and...HAPPY BIRTHDAY! (I promise to stop teasing you about being old now...OK, I can't exactly promise that). Thank you for being you, and for giving me a safe pla

Overnight Oats

I've been hearing a lot lately about overnight oats. Kelly O. has been raving about them and Coach's Oats too . I finally remembered to get them in the fridge last night and OMYum! These things rock!  Now, I'm not one that minds hot oats in the summer, but if you are this is the perfect solution for you. You still get the great nutrition and satiety of Coach's Oats, but cold. If you click the links above Kelly's video has a recipe and the Coach's Oats Blog has two. My recipe: 1/4 cup Coach's Oats 1/2 cup greek yogurt plain 0% 1/4 cup skim milk 1 packet Truvia sliced strawberries on top Mix ingredients together, cover bowl with plastic wrap, and stick in refrigerator overnight. Stats: 225 calories 34 g carbs 0 g fat 17 g protein Have you tried overnight oats? Do you have a recipe to share?

Body Confidence By Mark MacDonald Review and Giveaway

I read a lot of books on health/diet/fitness/weight loss/nutrition etc etc.  A LOT.  Right now I'd say I'm reading 5 or 6 at once.  I enjoy being up on the latest and greatest and also read many for review on this blog.  So, when I say Body Confidence by Mark MacDonald is by far one of the best I've read...I think that says something. The Firm Express Thin in 30--Week 1 Review and Results

I'm not going to do measurements and BF% this week, just weight. I lost 1 pound in week one of this plan . Last week I was 189, this week I am 188. Including the 2 pounds I lost on the 4 Day Kick Start plan, that's 3 pounds so far. I am pleased with that.  I am actually shocked by a loss at all. It is such a different plan than what I tend towards I wasn't sure how my body would react. (I'm generally more gung ho and a little less sensible, yes this is my downfall). I ate a very sensible 1600-1800 calories all week. 1800 is high for me (in my head!). I'm not used to allowing that many calories while trying to lose weight. I was honestly worried I might gain weight! I also only did the 3 workouts, roughly 20 minutes each. Normally I feel like I have to workout at least 5 days, and much longer than 20 minutes. I'm pleasantly surprised by these results. I think it's a very balanced sensible plan. But I am going to kick things up a little
