Breaking a Pattern

I have this pattern in my life.

I have a dream, I set a goal, I decide I want something...then I set out to achieve it...then, at some point along the way I freak out and start sabotaging myself.

This has been the pattern all my life. I'm afraid of success, I feel I don't deserve it. Crazy enough, at the same time, I have huge fear of failure, but somehow if I can look back and see I caused the failure it's 'better'. Ya, nice.

I had a goal, maybe a vain one, but it was important to this here blogger that struggles with her self esteem: look great for fitbloggin. (I can't believe I'm admitting this.)

I started out doing great, then, well then came the freakout, and the binges, and the gaining of the weight.

Well, I managed to turn things around a while ago and the scale started slowly going down again, but I wasn't trying my best either. A few weeks ago I screamed: ENOUGH! I will. Not. Sabotage my enjoyment of fitbloggin. I. Will. Not. (OK, I didn't reall…

Meet My Fitbloggin Sponsor

You've probably heard me blog or tweet about Coach's Oats before. I really do love these oats and this company.

I love that first came the love, then came the sponsorship. It just feels right that way. I hope that every conference I am blessed enough to be sponsored for works the same way.

Today I'd like to introduce YOU to Coach's Oats.

First I'd like to share a little about the company, the oats, the history (I've taken this from their site, no need to re-write perfection):
Lynn and Bonnie Rogers invented Coach’s Oats in their home kitchen in 1992. Lynn was the women’s gymnastics coach at California State University-Fullerton, where he was known by most as “Coach.” Bonnie worked as a graphic designer.
That winter, they decided to make a special holiday breakfast for their friends. Coach andBonnie loved steel cut oatmeal, but it took too long to cook, and rolled oats turned mushy and pasty. So they did what Coach always taught his athletes to do: They went back t…

Supreme 90 Day System Hype or Help?

Yesterday I started day 1 of my newest Hype or Help Experiment: the Supreme 90 Day System. I will be reviewing this workout system for the next 30 days and reporting my results. You can see my initial thoughts and what comes with this package in this video:

First, just so we're all on the same page, a few things I will be tweaking:

Yes, it is a 90 day system. I am not however willing to commit to 90 days at the moment. I am hoping to do the Denver Rock n Roll Half Marathon October 9th. So, I'll need to start half training June or July. I may or may not decide to finish out the 90 days and add this system onto half training. Point being, who knows! Whatever I decide I think that 30 days should give a good idea of whether this workout is hype or help.I am not going to be doing the nutrition plan that comes with this, just the workouts. Most likely I will be doing the nutrition plan from Body Confidence.I will be deviating from the workout calendar they have mapped out. I have the …

Here is what I did differently:

I kept my calories in a range from 1400-1600. Mostly at the lower end the last week. This is what works for me. The plan recommendation for my weight was 1800.…

My motivation to lose weight and get healthy is definitely for my kids! I am a single momma of five beautiful kids! Two weeks ago my Father had to have an emergency quintuple, yes FIVE, bypass surgery after having a heart cath done. He is the healthiest person I know! It came out of no where and made me seriously re-evaluate my life! If he is healthy and this happened to him, what could happen to me! It was a very scary moment in my life! That's the day I started the LAST weight-loss journey I will ever have to start! I am a nursing student also, and need to make this change! I don't want to be the nurse who weighs 300 lbs. Who wou…

Supreme 90 Day Out of the Box Review and Initial Thoughts

I laugh at my workout snobbery. When I first saw this workout around and even when I first received this set (yep, there's the disclaimer, slipped in, I received this from the PR company FTC) I thought it would be cheesy. In fact, had I not received this I probably would have passed it by and never tried it. Lesson learned, you can't judge a workout by its cover either ;)

I am very impressed with this workout system, low cost or no. My initial thoughts:

You can purchase this set at Walgreens, Bed Bath & Beyond, Sports Authority, and Dick's sporting Goods. You will need dumbbells and an exercise ball for these workouts. If you are someone who wants to workout at home you probably already have these (or should get them!).

So, yes the packaging is a little cheap, but for $19.99! I am amazed. It is a good nutrition plan that's included. Complete with a 28 day meal plan, a few recipes, and a shopping list. The workouts I've tried so far are awesome (Tabata Inferno and …

The Firm Express thin in 30--Week 2 Review and Results

Well, this week's results are a bit perplexing to me.

I weighed in at 189.5 that's 1.5 pounds up from last week.
BF % 34.9 that's .2 down from two weeks ago.

Not going to over-analyze. I kept my calories between 1600-1800. My workouts were The Firm Express schedule, plus I added a 20 minute Insanity workout and a 3 mile run for the week.

This week I am going to shoot for keeping my calories 1500-1600 and I will be upping my exercise. Still keeping with The Firm Express program, but adding in much more cardio. I think it's important to know my own body and know what it needs to get results.

I am just a blogger, not a doctor, trainer, or any sort of professional. What you read here are my personal experiences and opinions. Of course, always consult your doctor before trying a diet, supplement, or new workout program.

The 4-11

I just want to take a timeout for a very important person on a very important day...

Today, the love of my life turns 40.

On here I mostly call him 'hubby', but his name is Darran and he is awesome.

He is my best friend. He is a fantastic father. He is an amazing husband. He is a hard worker. He is a good person...deep down in his heart good.

He loves playing Legos with his boys, he works very hard so that I can stay home and homeschool our kids, and he can fix anything (really, anything).

And I, well I feel beyond blessed to call him my own. My life is a better life because of him. I am a better me because of him.

While he doesn't always read this is HIS day and I wanted to share a bit of him with you all.

So, Dear, if you are reading this: I love you, you are awesome...and...HAPPY BIRTHDAY! (I promise to stop teasing you about being old now...OK, I can't exactly promise that). Thank you for being you, and for giving me a safe place to be me.

Overnight Oats

I've been hearing a lot lately about overnight oats. Kelly O. has been raving about them and Coach's Oats too.

I finally remembered to get them in the fridge last night and OMYum!

These things rock!

Now, I'm not one that minds hot oats in the summer, but if you are this is the perfect solution for you. You still get the great nutrition and satiety of Coach's Oats, but cold.

If you click the links above Kelly's video has a recipe and the Coach's Oats Blog has two. My recipe:

1/4 cup Coach's Oats 1/2 cup greek yogurt plain 0% 1/4 cup skim milk 1 packet Truvia sliced strawberries on top
Mix ingredients together, cover bowl with plastic wrap, and stick in refrigerator overnight.

225 calories
34 g carbs
0 g fat
17 g protein

Have you tried overnight oats? Do you have a recipe to share?

Body Confidence By Mark MacDonald Review and Giveaway

I read a lot of books on health/diet/fitness/weight loss/nutrition etc etc.

Right now I'd say I'm reading 5 or 6 at once.

So, when I say Body Confidence by Mark MacDonald is by far one of the best I've read...I think that says something.

The Firm Express Thin in 30--Week 1 Review and Results

I'm not going to do measurements and BF% this week, just weight.

I lost 1 pound in week one of this plan.
Last week I was 189, this week I am 188.
Including the 2 pounds I lost on the 4 Day Kick Start plan, that's 3 pounds so far.

I am pleased with that.

I am actually shocked by a loss at all. It is such a different plan than what I tend towards I wasn't sure how my body would react. (I'm generally more gung ho and a little less sensible, yes this is my downfall).

I ate a very sensible 1600-1800 calories all week. 1800 is high for me (in my head!). I'm not used to allowing that many calories while trying to lose weight. I was honestly worried I might gain weight!

I also only did the 3 workouts, roughly 20 minutes each. Normally I feel like I have to workout at least 5 days, and much longer than 20 minutes.

I'm pleasantly surprised by these results. I think it's a very balanced sensible plan.

But I am going to kick things up a little for this next week. The workout …

KETO Cocktails: The Lemon Drop

I love a good glass of red wine now and then, I mean it's practically a health food, right? ;) But sometimes I just want a cocktail. I'm all for moderation and having a drink now and then, but I'm just not down with the calorie, carb, and sugar counts of some of my favorites. Seriously, have you ever looked them up? Eek. So, I've set to work at converting my favorite cocktail recipes to be more keto diet friendly!

The first cocktail recipe I'm tackling is the keto lemon drop. I used to love these, but haven't had one in years because of the sugar in them. In my early twenties I had a friend who used to make them for me all the time. We would have a shaker full of these, a good dinner, and a chick flick on a weeknight, it was kind of bliss. Her recipe called for so. much. SUGAR though! Looking back I think she may have used a wee bit more sugar than most, but they were really good.

I think my keto-ized recipe comes pretty dang close to those delicious memories! It…

What is 75 Hard #75Hard: Documenting My Experience With The 75 Hard Challenge

January 1, I embarked on an interesting journey; I decided to start the 75 Hard Challenge (scroll to the bottom of the post for my updated journal on my progress. I've gotten a lot of questions on this program and what it is exactly, what the rules are, etc. So...

What is 75 Hard? It's a mental toughness skills development challenge started by Andy Frisella. His premise is that mental toughness is a skill and therefore can be learned, practiced, and honed. Andy designed this challenge to cultivate: confidence, self-belief, self-esteem, self-worth, endurance, fortitude, grit, perseverance, self-discipline, endurance, resilience... and all of the skills inside the scope of mental toughness.  Check out the podcast that started it all for all the info from Andy himself: Note that if f-bombs are going to offend you this is not for you.

Cinnamon Vanilla KETO Coffee Creamer Recipe

There are tons of keto coffee creamer products flooding the market right now. Some are fantastic options. Some chock full of nasty ingredients. But most of them are on the pricey side.

I decided to work on some clean, more budget-friendly, keto coffee creamer recipes we can easily make at home! (Check out my Keto Peppermint Mocha Coffee Creamer too.)⠀

This dairy-free Cinnamon Vanilla Keto Coffee Creamer is definitely one of my favorites. I just love cinnamon coffees. They're delicious. Plus, cinnamon is supposed to be good for blood sugar control. Win-win.

Paleo Smoky Grilled Pineapple Burgers

Since going Paleo my family has fallen even more in love with our grill. Paleo and grilling just work well together. The past couple of years I've even been stepping outside my grilling comfort zone more and more. Grilling things I'd never thought to have grilled before and trying new flavor combinations. I have to say I'm pretty thrilled with the results of most of my flavor experiments.

In the past I'd never have thought to grill fruit, but it's amazing. Grilling fruit and adding it to traditionally savory dishes? Brilliant.

Oh yes, and? New rule: every burger recipe for the rest of forever must contain grilled pineapple. OK, maybe more of a guideline. It's a seriously delicious combination though.

This Smoky Grilled Pineapple Burger is always a crowd-pleaser at my house. It's not only Paleo, but Whole30, glutenfree, lower carb, and clean eating friendly. I promise you won't miss the bun!

30 Easy Prep and Pack Whole30 Lunch Recipes

The Whole30Program is amazing. I highly recommend it. Every time I've done a Whole 30 I have felt AMAZING by the end. It's a very empowering experience. It is not however an easy one. Mostly because the food prep can take much more time if you're used to grab and go options. A little planning ahead and you can definitely make it through the 30 days.

When it comes to Whole30 lunches, 3 things worked best for me:

Quick and easy salads.Prepping food on Sunday.Cooking too much at dinner and eating leftovers for lunch the next day.
I thought I'd share 30 of the awesome Whole30 lunch recipes I've found from my favorite bloggers (and a few from me!). I've included all three options I listed above. Some quick and easy salads, some to prep an entire recipe on the weekend and then portion them for lunches that week, and some to be cooked for dinner and the leftovers packed for lunch the next day. Play around and see what works best for you.

KETO Hot Cocoa Pancakes

OK, I know I've been on quite the low carb pancake tangent lately, but THESE! Seriously, these are yummtastic. Yummazing? Ya, they're really good. They just might be my favorite recipe I've ever done. Ever. OK, that might be my paleo apple crisp recipe, but that's not low, I wonder if I could tweak that low carb...

That would be brilliant!

You know, bloggers area always talking seo this and seo that (seo stands for search engine optimization if you're not a blogger) and I'm just over here yammering. I'm pretty sure when google's spider crawlers (anyone shiver at that word picture? eesh) get to FitViews they just think, "Yeesh, move along. Nothing to see here." Ha ha ha!

Anyway, pancakes. KETO Hot Cocoa Low Carb Pancakes no less. So good.

As I've mentioned before I'm back to low carb (keto actually) and developing new recipes to make it easier to stick with. I find I just plain feel great when I eat ketogenic, and I definitely h…

Keto Paleo Friendly Coffee Creamer Recipe

Going keto paleo has me missing one thing: the organic grass-fed half-and-half I'd been having in my coffee. Since going paleo over a year ago I've searched and searched and just never found anything else I love in my coffee. I'd just about given up on a keto paleo-friendly coffee creamer!

I was almost to resign myself to black coffee forever, but then I decided to resort again to trying to make my own. This version is simple and quite delicious. Not only is it keto paleo, but Whole30 and 21 Day Sugar Detox friendly as well.

Keto Paleo Cinnamon Vanilla Coffee Creamer
1 can Organic Canned Coconut Milk(the kind in the carton just won't do it)
1 teaspoon Cinnamon Vietnamese Organic
1 teaspoon Organic Pure Vanilla for 100% Whole30 compliant swap for vanilla powder
2 teaspoons raw local honey or Organic Maple Syrup (optional, leave out for KETO, Whole30, or 21DSD)

Blend all ingredients well in your blender. Store in the refrigerator (the cinnamon tends to set…

Vanilla Maple Iced Coffee

It's no secret that I'm madly in love with coffee. Hot coffee, iced coffee, plain coffee, flavored coffee, espresso, latte, cappuccino... you name it I want to marinate in it.

People often ask me if coffee is Paleo. My answer: maybe not strict Paleo, but I. Don't. Care. Cavemen did NOT drink coffee some declare. To this I reply: I am convinced that cavepeople of my ancestral line were roasting beans, crushing them, and pouring hot water over them thousands of years ahead of their time.

OK, but seriously, I am Paleo because of the benefits I have seen eating this way. My food choices are more about how a food affects me than whether or not a caveman consumed it. Also, generally speaking, I think most people drink coffee on Paleo.

Whether or not coffee itself is Paleo, the things we add to it can be absolutely NOT Paleo. I am definitely known to splurge on a (non-Paleo) Starbucks now and then, but most of the time I prefer to keep my coffee concoctions Paleo.

This iced-coffee …

The Killer Jillian 30-Day Workout Rotation #killerjillian

If you've visited FitViews before you have probably noticed I'm rather fond of Jillian Michaels at-home workouts. I own virtually all she has and have reviewed many on this blog. They're just good, solid workouts that give me great results.
I'm particularly fond of Jillian programs, calendars, and challenges. I've blogged through Body Revolution and BodyShred. I vlogged through the 30 Day Shred. Pretty much every Jillian challenge set forth I've delightedly owned.
But I'm feeling a bit "been there done that" lately. I want a new Jillian challenge. Something fresh, something challenging, something different. Something new to motivate me and push me. So, I decided to come up with my own! I'm calling it the #KillerJillian Challenge.

The #KillerJillianBefore I launch into the calendar, a little disclaimer: This challenge is in no way endorsed by Jillian Michaels. It's just a for-fun workout calendar I came up with. Also, I'm not a trainer, d…
