Since going Paleo my family has fallen even more in love with our grill. Paleo and grilling just work well together. The past couple of years I've even been stepping outside my grilling comfort zone more and more. Grilling things I'd never thought to have grilled before and trying new flavor combinations. I have to say I'm pretty thrilled with the results of most of my flavor experiments. In the past I'd never have thought to grill fruit, but it's amazing. Grilling fruit and adding it to traditionally savory dishes? Brilliant. Oh yes, and? New rule: every burger recipe for the rest of forever must contain grilled pineapple. OK, maybe more of a guideline. It's a seriously delicious combination though. This Smoky Grilled Pineapple Burger is always a crowd-pleaser at my house. It's not only Paleo, but Whole30, glutenfree, lower carb, and clean eating friendly. I promise you won't miss the bun! paleo, grilled pineapple burger, smoky
As usual, I'll just start with the numbers. My results on the Paleo diet so far:
My eating patterns/behaviors overall are making some amazing changes. I haven't binged or even had the urge to binge AT ALL in the last 3 weeks. That alone amazes me. Like I said, I just feel at peace with food. That's the only way I can put it. I'm also learning to listen to my body and it's hunger/fullness cues again. It amazes me how much I used calorie counting as a crutch. I wasn't really paying attention to my body, I was just eating how much I 'should' eat. Now I eat when I'm hungry and stop when I'm full. When I'm not hungry I don't eat. Crazy stuff here. I've eaten past full a few times and felt it, didn't beat myself up, and moved on.

I am baffled by my results (physical and otherwise) so far with eating Paleo. Weight loss has been only 1 pound total in 3 weeks, but I am losing inches like mad! I can feel it too. I feel thinner all over. My clothes are lose. My stomach is noticeably smaller! I've never experienced anything like this. Normally (for me) the scale and inches play nice. It's a good thing I did measurements as well as using the scale.
I still feel fanfriggintastic and I'm not stressed out or obsessed over what the scale is doing. I have made peace with food and how I'm eating (you have no idea how incredible that statement is for me). It feels awesome. I don't ever remember feeling this relaxed about food and my weight. My husband commented the same thing last night. And also, apparently my moods are much more pleasant ;).
Whatever the results from this little experiment wind up being I plan to stick to some version of paleo/primal permanently. Next month I will be going full Primal (to see how I like that), then I plan to decide on what is best for me and my body (not to mention my family). I think there is a full spectrum of paleo/primal eating and people fall along it differently. I hope to find my 'happy place' on that spectrum. Mainly, I just have no urge to change how great I feel. So, we'll see where I wind up...

I'm so happy to see these results, and truth be told, not really surprised. :) Keep it up! I fall somewhere around the intersection of lowcarb and paleo, and the reason I've stuck with it for 15yrs or so is because I feel so well. There's a misconception that it's harder to follow a way of eating that seems so restrictive with regard to refined carbs (cookies, cake, bread, etc.) The beauty is that when you eat this way, you aren't missing those foods because you realize you don't really want or need them.
ReplyDeleteheli, I so agree! Once I decided not to eat them at all and went through a week or so getting them out of my system they lost their pull.
ReplyDeleteawesome job!! sounds like you're doing great! maybe ill give it another go when im NOT working at a bakery...haha its so hard there!
ReplyDeleteAmy, I can't even imagine trying to do paleo while working at a bakery, LOL!
ReplyDeletei need to go back and read over your older posts because I would SO LOVE to be in a place where I feel comfortable with food and not worry about binging!!
ReplyDeleteInches are SO much more important than a stupid number on a scale! I have noticed that my clothes are fitting much better since eating paleo. Gotta love it! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm stunned by the changes in the way you feel after only three weeks. It's like your peace is radiating off my screen right now. I want that feeling, and I'll be buying Everyday Paleo as soon as I can afford it.
ReplyDeleteI just have one question. I've read in other places that a true paleo "diet" (or lifestyle, if you will) consists of foods that are as chemically unmodified as possible - ie, organic veggies and free range or hormone free meat. As these food items can often be much more costly, do you incorporate them into your paleo? If you don't now, would you like to if you could?
I have been paleo for about 9 weeks and am with you in love with it :)
ReplyDeleteMiss Erika,
ReplyDeleteI do the best I can, that's my philosophy. If I can afford the organic etc I buy it. If not, I don't. I figure eating conventional paleo foods is better than processed organic, 'junk'.
The weight loss and fat reduction market seems really complicated so it is great to find a blog that sets things out so well. Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteI found another useful site at AbdominalFats.com/articles.
So glad I found your blog and congrats on feeling so at peace re food. I know EXACTLY what you mean -- I went gluten-free 4 months ago and then sugar-, caffeine- and all-grain free about 2 months ago. I figure my diet is about 80-90% Paleo with a few "tweaks" (eg, sometimes I have brown rice ricecakes and occasional cheese).
ReplyDeleteI just feel so even as far as appetities, cravings, even mood. That is the best word for it - even. Before, up and down, up and down, cravings, needed "willpower" - and now, just even.
Keep up the good work!
