Since going Paleo my family has fallen even more in love with our grill. Paleo and grilling just work well together. The past couple of years I've even been stepping outside my grilling comfort zone more and more. Grilling things I'd never thought to have grilled before and trying new flavor combinations. I have to say I'm pretty thrilled with the results of most of my flavor experiments. In the past I'd never have thought to grill fruit, but it's amazing. Grilling fruit and adding it to traditionally savory dishes? Brilliant. Oh yes, and? New rule: every burger recipe for the rest of forever must contain grilled pineapple. OK, maybe more of a guideline. It's a seriously delicious combination though. This Smoky Grilled Pineapple Burger is always a crowd-pleaser at my house. It's not only Paleo, but Whole30, glutenfree, lower carb, and clean eating friendly. I promise you won't miss the bun! paleo, grilled pineapple burger, smoky
I read a lot of books on health/diet/fitness/weight loss/nutrition etc etc.
A LOT.
Right now I'd say I'm reading 5 or 6 at once.
I enjoy being up on the latest and greatest and also read many for review on this blog.
So, when I say Body Confidence by Mark MacDonald is by far one of the best I've read...I think that says something.
Synopsis from Amazon: "Say goodbye to feeling disappointed with your body—Body Confidence is the highly anticipated fitness book from world-renowned Venice Nutrition Program founder Mark Macdonald. Macdonald’s targeted series of diet and fitness strategies are proven to burn body fat, boost energy levels, increase muscle mass, and eliminate sugar cravings for a better looking, better feeling body today. Providing a step up to holistic body care for fans of Tosca Reno’s Eat-Clean Diet or Jorge Cruise’s Belly Fat Cure, and an excellent companion to Cynthia Sass’s Cinch!, the Venice Nutrition Program’s innovative fitness plan focuses on blood sugar stabilization and a complementary program of exercise, sleep, and stress management. A foreword by bestselling author Chelsea Handler will let you know why Body Confidence is your next step to a healthier, happier tomorrow."
When I first got an email about reviewing Body Confidence, I judged a book by it's cover...I thought it was about body image. Oops. It is, but it isn't. MacDonald defines body confidence as "looking and feeling your best". I would hesitate to call it a diet book, it's so much more than that. Hmm, maybe a healthy lifestyle book? It really does have it all.
Why I loved Body Confidence:
- MacDonald's balanced approach. Not just balanced eating and exercise, but sleep, stress, and balance in your life!
- The focus on goals, planning, and permanent change.
- The success stories included throughout the book. I found them so encouraging.
- The nutrition and exercise plan completely gel with everything I have learned and know about my body. For example, I always say I feel so much better when I keep my protein intake high, MacDonald's explanation on blood sugar stabilization explained to me why this is.
- MacDonald's focus on quality of food, not just quantity.
- His focus on molding the plan to you and your body, no cookie cutter approach here.
- The positive, encouraging tone of the entire book. I really came away feeling like: I get it, I can do this.
Even as much as I read on this subject there were things in this book that were new to me, and other things that were put in a way that finally switched a light bulb on in my head. If I wasn't in the middle of reviewing another plan, I'd be on this right now! Hmm, wonder if I can combine the two somehow...
I absolutely give this book 5 stars and recommend it to anyone!
