Hype or Help? BeachBody's 21 Day Fix #21dayfix

If you're like me you've seen all the 21 Day Fix hoopla and thought: hmm, is it really that good? Well, I've decided to put it to the test and find out!

I started Beachbody's 21 Day Fix on Monday and will be doing the entire plan for the next 3 weeks. Workouts, meal plan, the full meal deal.

Oh, and I'm not a Beachbody Coach. I like to say that up front. No bias here. I am not trying to sell you anything and don't care if you buy it. Just sharing my experiences and results with the program; then I'll review it at the end.

Getting started with the 21 Day Fix
The Workouts
For the 21 Day Fix you are working out for 30 minutes, 7 days a week. You're doing yoga on Sundays, so not having a complete rest day isn't a huge deal-breaker for me. Plus, it's only 3 weeks! The workouts are a variety of cardio and strength training. There's also a great modifier shown, so it can really be beginner friendly.

The meal plan is based on portion control …

Ultimate Booty Workouts Results + Before and After Pics

Ultimate Booty Workouts
I have to say that I really enjoyed this workout program. I never got bored with it and it always kept me challenged. And the results? Well, they speak for themselves...
My before and after Ultimate Booty Workouts stats:

Weight
Before-194.5 After 184
Bust
Before-44 After 42
Waist  Before-36.5 After 34
Hips
Before-44 After 42
Right Calf  Before-14.5 After 13.75
Clothing size  Before-13/14 After 11/12

I felt a little weird in a tank and shorts for these. I've never done progress pictures this way, but I'm so glad that I did!
My before and after Ultimate Booty Workout pics:

Needless to say I'm pretty excited for these results! To be honest I'd hoped for more than 10.5 pounds in 12 weeks (I was aiming at a pound a week), but the pictures say it all. I am seeing a major difference in my clothing too. I started out with my 13/14's shorts being a tad loose. I then went through my 12's and am now in 11/12's (we all know how clothing sizes vary, but these we…

Learning to Listen to My Body. Even When I Don't Like What it's Saying...

Years ago I was very unhealthy and I was also quite oblivious. I was completely disconnected from my body. It was screaming at me, but I wasn't listening.

Throughout my weight loss journey the biggest thing I learned is to listen to my body.
I was shocked what my body taught me simply from paying attention. Certain foods do not agree with me at all. Staying hydrated energizes me; likewise being dehydrated makes me feel like a slug. Intense workouts make me feel like a superhero; they give me energy, not take it like I'd assumed.

I had no idea! I wasn't paying attention. The list of what I've learned about myself is long and still growing, but the skill of listening to my body is priceless.

Paying attention is the best thing I've ever done for myself. Hands down.
Speaking of paying attention...

A few years ago I ran a marathon. I followed some generic training plan, which was way too much running for me, and hurt my hip. I then ran said marathon on said hurt hip. I was…

Review: Jillian Michaels One Week Shred

Jillian Michaels One Week Shred
When I first saw Jillian Michaels latest DVD release on Amazon I immediately hated it. Just being honest. It looked gimmicky. It touted (what I feel are) unrealistic expectations. It splashily declared things like: "Lose up to 7 Pounds in 7 Days" and "Need to crash your weight loss for a special upcoming event..." Marketing. Blah, blah, blah.
I wasn't a fan.
But I had people asking me about it and whether I'd review it. I know I always review Jillian's stuff and people expect to find those reviews here on FitViews, so I ordered it. Fully intending to continue to hate it.
Sadly...
I don't hate it! As a workout that is. As a 7 day "crash", meh, not so sure, but as a workout I think it's pretty good. OK, let's get into the review...

From the back of the DVD: Need to crash your weight loss for a special upcoming event--high school reunion, wedding, party, beach vacation in a bikini, etc.? Jillian Michaels new …

What Comes With Beachbody's 21 Day Fix? My Unboxing Video

The next workout program I'll be blogging through here on FitViews will be...

Beachbody's 21 Day Fix program!

I'll be starting it as soon as I'm finished with Ultimate Booty. Just a note: I'm not a Beachbody coach (nor do I want to become one :) and I purchased this program myself.

What comes in the 21 Day Fix package? My unboxing video:

Everything shown in the video: How big are the containers for the 21 Day Fix? Just to give you an idea of size:
The containers are smaller than I thought they would be, but once I read through the info I realized they're more like measuring cups to keep your portion sizes correct. I think I was imagining putting whole meals in them!

I'm super excited to start this new program! It's always fun to try new trainers and shake things up. Boredom is my fitness enemy. Also, the idea of the containers for easy portion control seems very cool.

I'll be starting the 21 Day Fix workouts April 28th and will post my beginning stats and …

Review: THE FAT BURN REVOLUTION by Julia Buckley

Disclaimer: I was sent a copy of The Fat Burn Revolution for review.  As always, opinions expressed are 100% honest and my own. The Fat Burn Revolution by Julia Buckley (also available on kindle)
In the past I was in the very bad habit of sticking to a handful of trainers that I was familiar with. While this worked for me at the time, remaining in my small circle of trainer-comfort-zone was holding me back from some amazing new trainers and ideas. I have since branched out and am beyond glad that I did. In doing so I have stumbled across many a new trainer that I've fallen in love with!

Like: Julia Buckley. I must confess that previous to being contacted to receive a copy of her new book I had never come across Julia before. I'm so glad that has been remedied because I'm head over heels in love with this book.
For this program you'll need:
Dumbbells to suit your ability
Exercise ball
Bench, box/step, or chair (for moves like tri-cep dips, split squats, etc)

KETO Cocktails: The Lemon Drop

I love a good glass of red wine now and then, I mean it's practically a health food, right? ;) But sometimes I just want a cocktail. I'm all for moderation and having a drink now and then, but I'm just not down with the calorie, carb, and sugar counts of some of my favorites. Seriously, have you ever looked them up? Eek. So, I've set to work at converting my favorite cocktail recipes to be more keto diet friendly!

The first cocktail recipe I'm tackling is the keto lemon drop. I used to love these, but haven't had one in years because of the sugar in them. In my early twenties I had a friend who used to make them for me all the time. We would have a shaker full of these, a good dinner, and a chick flick on a weeknight, it was kind of bliss. Her recipe called for so. much. SUGAR though! Looking back I think she may have used a wee bit more sugar than most, but they were really good.

I think my keto-ized recipe comes pretty dang close to those delicious memories! It…

What is 75 Hard #75Hard: Documenting My Experience With The 75 Hard Challenge

January 1, I embarked on an interesting journey; I decided to start the 75 Hard Challenge (scroll to the bottom of the post for my updated journal on my progress. I've gotten a lot of questions on this program and what it is exactly, what the rules are, etc. So...

What is 75 Hard? It's a mental toughness skills development challenge started by Andy Frisella. His premise is that mental toughness is a skill and therefore can be learned, practiced, and honed. Andy designed this challenge to cultivate: confidence, self-belief, self-esteem, self-worth, endurance, fortitude, grit, perseverance, self-discipline, endurance, resilience... and all of the skills inside the scope of mental toughness.  Check out the podcast that started it all for all the info from Andy himself: https://andyfrisella.com/blogs/mfceo-project-podcast/75hard-a-75-day-tactical-guide-to-winning-the-war-with-yourself-with-andy-frisella-mfceo291 Note that if f-bombs are going to offend you this is not for you.

Cinnamon Vanilla KETO Coffee Creamer Recipe

There are tons of keto coffee creamer products flooding the market right now. Some are fantastic options. Some chock full of nasty ingredients. But most of them are on the pricey side.

I decided to work on some clean, more budget-friendly, keto coffee creamer recipes we can easily make at home! (Check out my Keto Peppermint Mocha Coffee Creamer too.)⠀

This dairy-free Cinnamon Vanilla Keto Coffee Creamer is definitely one of my favorites. I just love cinnamon coffees. They're delicious. Plus, cinnamon is supposed to be good for blood sugar control. Win-win.

Paleo Smoky Grilled Pineapple Burgers

Since going Paleo my family has fallen even more in love with our grill. Paleo and grilling just work well together. The past couple of years I've even been stepping outside my grilling comfort zone more and more. Grilling things I'd never thought to have grilled before and trying new flavor combinations. I have to say I'm pretty thrilled with the results of most of my flavor experiments.

In the past I'd never have thought to grill fruit, but it's amazing. Grilling fruit and adding it to traditionally savory dishes? Brilliant.

Oh yes, and? New rule: every burger recipe for the rest of forever must contain grilled pineapple. OK, maybe more of a guideline. It's a seriously delicious combination though.

This Smoky Grilled Pineapple Burger is always a crowd-pleaser at my house. It's not only Paleo, but Whole30, glutenfree, lower carb, and clean eating friendly. I promise you won't miss the bun!

30 Easy Prep and Pack Whole30 Lunch Recipes

The Whole30Program is amazing. I highly recommend it. Every time I've done a Whole 30 I have felt AMAZING by the end. It's a very empowering experience. It is not however an easy one. Mostly because the food prep can take much more time if you're used to grab and go options. A little planning ahead and you can definitely make it through the 30 days.

When it comes to Whole30 lunches, 3 things worked best for me:

Quick and easy salads.Prepping food on Sunday.Cooking too much at dinner and eating leftovers for lunch the next day.
I thought I'd share 30 of the awesome Whole30 lunch recipes I've found from my favorite bloggers (and a few from me!). I've included all three options I listed above. Some quick and easy salads, some to prep an entire recipe on the weekend and then portion them for lunches that week, and some to be cooked for dinner and the leftovers packed for lunch the next day. Play around and see what works best for you.

This list of 30 Whole30 Lunch Reci…

KETO Hot Cocoa Pancakes

OK, I know I've been on quite the low carb pancake tangent lately, but THESE! Seriously, these are yummtastic. Yummazing? Ya, they're really good. They just might be my favorite recipe I've ever done. Ever. OK, that might be my paleo apple crisp recipe, but that's not low carb...ooo, I wonder if I could tweak that low carb...

That would be brilliant!

You know, bloggers area always talking seo this and seo that (seo stands for search engine optimization if you're not a blogger) and I'm just over here yammering. I'm pretty sure when google's spider crawlers (anyone shiver at that word picture? eesh) get to FitViews they just think, "Yeesh, move along. Nothing to see here." Ha ha ha!

Anyway, pancakes. KETO Hot Cocoa Low Carb Pancakes no less. So good.

As I've mentioned before I'm back to low carb (keto actually) and developing new recipes to make it easier to stick with. I find I just plain feel great when I eat ketogenic, and I definitely h…

Keto Paleo Friendly Coffee Creamer Recipe

Going keto paleo has me missing one thing: the organic grass-fed half-and-half I'd been having in my coffee. Since going paleo over a year ago I've searched and searched and just never found anything else I love in my coffee. I'd just about given up on a keto paleo-friendly coffee creamer!

I was almost to resign myself to black coffee forever, but then I decided to resort again to trying to make my own. This version is simple and quite delicious. Not only is it keto paleo, but Whole30 and 21 Day Sugar Detox friendly as well.

Keto Paleo Cinnamon Vanilla Coffee Creamer
Ingredients
1 can Organic Canned Coconut Milk(the kind in the carton just won't do it)
1 teaspoon Cinnamon Vietnamese Organic
1 teaspoon Organic Pure Vanilla for 100% Whole30 compliant swap for vanilla powder
2 teaspoons raw local honey or Organic Maple Syrup (optional, leave out for KETO, Whole30, or 21DSD)

Directions
Blend all ingredients well in your blender. Store in the refrigerator (the cinnamon tends to set…

Vanilla Maple Iced Coffee

It's no secret that I'm madly in love with coffee. Hot coffee, iced coffee, plain coffee, flavored coffee, espresso, latte, cappuccino... you name it I want to marinate in it.

People often ask me if coffee is Paleo. My answer: maybe not strict Paleo, but I. Don't. Care. Cavemen did NOT drink coffee some declare. To this I reply: I am convinced that cavepeople of my ancestral line were roasting beans, crushing them, and pouring hot water over them thousands of years ahead of their time.

OK, but seriously, I am Paleo because of the benefits I have seen eating this way. My food choices are more about how a food affects me than whether or not a caveman consumed it. Also, generally speaking, I think most people drink coffee on Paleo.

Whether or not coffee itself is Paleo, the things we add to it can be absolutely NOT Paleo. I am definitely known to splurge on a (non-Paleo) Starbucks now and then, but most of the time I prefer to keep my coffee concoctions Paleo.

This iced-coffee …

The Killer Jillian 30-Day Workout Rotation #killerjillian

If you've visited FitViews before you have probably noticed I'm rather fond of Jillian Michaels at-home workouts. I own virtually all she has and have reviewed many on this blog. They're just good, solid workouts that give me great results.
I'm particularly fond of Jillian programs, calendars, and challenges. I've blogged through Body Revolution and BodyShred. I vlogged through the 30 Day Shred. Pretty much every Jillian challenge set forth I've delightedly owned.
But I'm feeling a bit "been there done that" lately. I want a new Jillian challenge. Something fresh, something challenging, something different. Something new to motivate me and push me. So, I decided to come up with my own! I'm calling it the #KillerJillian Challenge.

The #KillerJillianBefore I launch into the calendar, a little disclaimer: This challenge is in no way endorsed by Jillian Michaels. It's just a for-fun workout calendar I came up with. Also, I'm not a trainer, d…
