Since going Paleo my family has fallen even more in love with our grill. Paleo and grilling just work well together. The past couple of years I've even been stepping outside my grilling comfort zone more and more. Grilling things I'd never thought to have grilled before and trying new flavor combinations. I have to say I'm pretty thrilled with the results of most of my flavor experiments. In the past I'd never have thought to grill fruit, but it's amazing. Grilling fruit and adding it to traditionally savory dishes? Brilliant. Oh yes, and? New rule: every burger recipe for the rest of forever must contain grilled pineapple. OK, maybe more of a guideline. It's a seriously delicious combination though. This Smoky Grilled Pineapple Burger is always a crowd-pleaser at my house. It's not only Paleo, but Whole30, glutenfree, lower carb, and clean eating friendly. I promise you won't miss the bun! paleo, grilled pineapple burger, smoky...
First, let me back up a bit. This is my fourth pregnancy. I have three boys: 18, 9, and 7. All of those pregnancies were pretty rough. Morning sickness was terrible for me. It pretty much lasted all day for the first 3 or 4 months. I was either throwing up or feeling like I wanted to. It was rough and I dealt with it with a steady diet of saltines and Sprite. Once the nausea finally passed I then ate whatever I wanted, heck, I was pregnant! Rueben sandwich, fries, AND an Oreo shake? Yes please. Lots of junk was consumed. Which of course resulted in my gaining 60 to 80 pounds for each of those pregnancies.
It wasn't until after my third son that I got serious about getting healthy and changing my choices. I want very badly for this pregnancy to be different. It's uncharted territory for me, but I'm committed to making healthy choices.
Week 6
I had forgotten how early the pregnancy cravings start. This time around I'm trying very hard to listen to my body and give it what it needs. So far I've been craving things like sweet potatoes and fruit. Score. I sent my husband to the grocery store the other day with a list that requested a "crapton of fruit". This past week I did also have a few cravings for vinegary type things like pickles and saurkraut. Yum.
Nausea raised it's gnarly head for the first time this week. The past couple of days were rough. I find that Celestial Seasonings Peppermint tea is the only thing that helps much. Even just smelling it!
My breakfasts had been looking like this:
But I can't really stand to look at eggs right now, so mostly it's been fruits and my prenatal for breakfast. Sometimes a smoothie will sound good. Hopefully I'll be back to more normal foods before long.
Speaking of prenatal vitamins, I debated whether I'd take one. Generally I do not take a multi-vitamin and choose to rely on good, whole, healthy foods to get my nutrition. But with nausea being an issue and just wanting to be safe I decided to take a vitamin. I chose this one:
It is a gluten free, soy free, dairy free, non gmo, whole food prenatal. I searched and searched before settling on this one. It's a tall order to find a paleo friendly prenatal! This one does have some brown rice. But so far it's been the best option I can find. I'm also taking Green Pasture Butter Oil/Fermented Cod Liver Oil Blend in the capsules. Pretty sure I couldn't choke down cod liver oil right now otherwise!
My workouts this week have been sporadic. The nausea has been a problem. So, I've been listening to my body and giving it rest. I try to at least go for a walk each day even if I'm not feeling well enough for a regular workout. I can't wait for this nausea to pass!
My awesome friend Margo sent me my first pair of prego jeans this week!
Thank you Margo!!! My youngest is 7 and I've given away all of my maternity clothes (and baby stuff!); starting from scratch on your fourth is pretty crazy.
Since finding out I was pregnant I'd debated whether I'd go completely off of coffee or not. (You know how much I love it!) Initially I'd decided to stick to one cup a day, but I weaned myself the rest of the way off coffee this week. Well, the nausea did that for me. I can't stand the taste of coffee right now. I know, *faint*.
So, here's my question for you this week:
What's your favorite non-coffee k-cup? I need suggestions to try!
