Since going Paleo my family has fallen even more in love with our grill. Paleo and grilling just work well together. The past couple of years I've even been stepping outside my grilling comfort zone more and more. Grilling things I'd never thought to have grilled before and trying new flavor combinations. I have to say I'm pretty thrilled with the results of most of my flavor experiments. In the past I'd never have thought to grill fruit, but it's amazing. Grilling fruit and adding it to traditionally savory dishes? Brilliant. Oh yes, and? New rule: every burger recipe for the rest of forever must contain grilled pineapple. OK, maybe more of a guideline. It's a seriously delicious combination though. This Smoky Grilled Pineapple Burger is always a crowd-pleaser at my house. It's not only Paleo, but Whole30, glutenfree, lower carb, and clean eating friendly. I promise you won't miss the bun! paleo, grilled pineapple burger, smoky
If you're on Twitter you might be aware that my birthday is this Friday, the 25th. Aware because I can't quit talking about it!
I was thinking earlier and tweeted about why I have no idea why I'm so excited about it. I mean, I turn 34, not exactly a milestone. We're pretty tight on our budget this month since I bought spoiled teen boy an XBOX 360 for his 16th birthday (which is the 29th so shhh, don't tell). There won't be any celebration or big to do. And likely presents only from my mom and mother in law.
But still, I am excited about it.
I can't wait. It's a big deal to me this year. But kept wondering why I felt this way. Then someone tweeted back to me:

@katdoesdiets You are a different woman than last year!! You feel good!! You look good!! Your birthday will be a celebration of it all!!
Um, BINGO! She is exactly right. I want to CELEBRATE my life this year. I had to let that sink in a moment.
I WANT to CELEBRATE my LIFE this year. Wow.
Really, I can't remember this feeling ever. But it's true. She's exactly right. I feel awesome, I feel healthy, I feel strong. Many things are going great in my life: my weight loss, my health, my running, my passion that is writing...the list is too long...and I want to celebrate that this year. I want to celebrate...ME!
And that feels good. I am a different woman than I was last year..and the year before...and...you get the picture. And the improvement is worth celebrating.
Hooray!
Are you excited when your birthday comes around? Do you celebrate you?
(Oh, you haven't gotten off this easy...there will still BE a birthday post on Friday too hee hee)

Damn... it wasn't the #manhug tweet back? LOL. I think that she hit the nail on the head though, we are celebrating our new healthy lives, and it's a wonderful feeling!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to you! (and me!)
The manhug tweet and jacksh*t offering to jump outta a cake were definitely right up there, LOL. Happy Birthday to you!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYou have some powerful reasons why this could be your best ever birthday! Happy Pre-Birthday to you!
ReplyDeleteI love that and the tweet and your post made me realize it truly is only since I've gotten on my healthy path that I stop and celebrate me/life in general daily.
ReplyDeleteWithout fail.
16yrs later it still hasn't gotten old ;)
Happy early birthday!
Happy birthday to you!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy early birthday to you! You are celebrating the new you as well as the continued new year for the next year, the year after that, and all the years to come!
ReplyDeleteIt's incredible what 365 days can do to a person. And you are a prime example of that!
Congrats, on living life! (So proud of you).
My birthday is soon too. Celebrating because I'm going to almost be mid-20s! Time to get my act in check! And I'm excited to be spending it with family this year. I haven't celebrated my birthday at home in YEARS.
I LOVE BIRTHDAYS! And yes I celebrate, usually in style! I wrote my own post on my b'day.

I hope you have a great one and another great year to come!
I am not big on birthdays. Seems like a lot of pressure for it to be special. But I am thrilled for yours this year:)
ReplyDeleteHAPPY BIRTHDAY HOPE YOU HAVE AN AWESOME DAY.
ReplyDeleteI've always been overly excited for my birthdays. I would start counting down from mid July.
This year for my birthday I'm doing the Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb. I've always wanted to do it. I just hope I'm not too fat for it.
HOPE YOU HAVE AN AWESOME BIRTHDAY.
Sammie
Happy Almost Birthday! I love your spirit! You really are a reason to celebrate! Enjoy your week.
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog this morning and I am anxious to follow your half marathon training as I will be running my first in October. Hope you have a great birthday!
ReplyDeleteI am a firm believer in finding opportunities for new beginnings, and birthdays are such a natural thing for that! While some birthdays are definitely worth celebrating more than others, anytime I can look back and see growth and positive change is HUGE. Hope your day is the best ever!
ReplyDeleteYou have all the reason in the world to celebrate. Congratulations on your accomplishment thus far, and for the many more than I'm sure are to come. I can't wait until I can celebrate my "New Woman Birthday" when my 45th year on God's Earth rolls around in September. Have a great Birthday tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteHappiest of birthdays to you Kat!! And yes, I can totally relate to the excitement of all birthdays, milestones or not!
ReplyDeleteOh, I meant to ask you, I just started my own blog here on Blogger, and I was wondering how you and others that I've seen set up pages on your blogs? I remember seeing something about that at one time, but now I can't seem to remember for the life of me where I saw it or figure out how to do it. Any help is certainly appreciated. :D
ReplyDeleteI also failed to comment on the fact that I see from this post that you are a writer. If you don't mind me asking, what type of writing do you do? I tried my hand at writing -- romance fan fiction. LOL Honestly, I did ... er, do ... enjoy it. For the few times that I have actually been able to put pen to paper, people seemed to enjoy the result. Just wish I could get place this horrid block that's been plaguing me for the last year.
Well, I've rambling on long enough. Sorry about that. I tend to be long-winded. LOL
Elizabeth, in your Dashboard you can switch to 'Blogger in Draft' and make that your default dashboard, that is how I made pages.
ReplyDeleteWriting is my passion, I am trying my hand at several different genres right now, haven't exactly found my niche, but somebody told me the other day 'write for you'...and I feel like that has given me more direction than anything else ever. Crazy, but it's working. My blog has helped me hugely with the paralysis I was in with my writing previously.
You're fun!!! Good news...I like celebrating you too!!! You are doing so well! Keep the good work up :)
