Paleo Through The Holidays - October's #PaleoChat

The holiday season is almost upon us. (HOW did that happen?!) This time of year can be especially challenging to those trying to eat Paleo, Primal, or gluten-free.

Join me Wednesday, October 2nd at 9 PM Eastern (on twitter) for October's #PaleoChat. We'll be discussing being Paleo through the holidays.
One lucky chatter will win a copy of:

And YES this month's chat giveaway is open to our Canadian chatters as well!

Please note: this will be the last chat of 2013. There will be NO #paleochat for November and December. Chats will resume in January 2014.

Hope to see you there!

Happy National Coffee Day!

Tomorrow is National Coffee Day. AKA my favorite holiday AKA a day that is most celebrated among my people.

I'm often asked if coffee is Paleo. My short answer: I don't care. My long answer: I am absolutely convinced that cavepeople of my lineage were roasting coffee beans over a campfire, smashing them with rocks, and pouring hot water over them. Obviously.
If we're friends on Instagramtwitterfacebook... OK, pretty much anywhere, you are well aware of my passion for coffee. Yes, yes I've been known to call it happy-rainbow-unicorn-sunshine-juice. You also may be vaguely aware of my love of all things Starbucks.

I call that little photo montage "Tuesday".
Let's just say I was mildly excited when Starbucks wanted to send me a bag of their newest coffee to celebrate with this National Coffee Day.
A little info on this new coffee and Starbucks National Coffee Day promotions:

Body After Baby 13 Weeks Postpartum UPDATE

Finished 30 Day PUSH Focus. It's an easy thing to lose. I have to say that the online 30 Day PUSH challenge helped me immensely with this. Not only in my health/fitness, but even more so with other aspects of my life. Definitely recommend this challenge to all of my blogger friends.
A Jillian DietBet In an effort to encourage focus I've joined a friend in the Jillian Michaels Dietbet. People have been asking what I think about Dietbet in general; I'll give a full review at the end.
Daily Eats I've had several requests for an overview of what I eat, what a day of Paleo looks like for me, etc. You can always follow me on instagram, I try to share meals there, but here is yesterday: New Scale It seemed a new scale was in order for the Dietbet. Just wasn't convinced my old scale is entirely reliable. I of course picked the pink one at Target. Meet Taylor: Taylor sadly weighs me a pound heavier than my old scale. So, my initial Dietbet weigh in was 196.2. Moving on...

Fitness Fashion Review: MARIKA

Last time I was working on losing baby weight it took me a very long time to buy new workout clothes. I made do with what I could squeeze into, I borrowed my husbands t-shirts, I didn't think it mattered.

Then, even though I wasn't at my goal weight, I bought some cute workout clothes. Let me tell you: IT MATTERS.

Not only do good workout clothes simply perform better, but they also change my entire attitude. I FEEL better in cute workout clothes. Sorry, not sorry.

Since that epiphany I will always have fitness clothes that fit. Whether I'm at my 'goal' or not. It's so worth it; I'm so worth it.

Recently Marika sent me the following to review:
Marika Tek - Summer Delight Venus V-Neck Tee Marika - High Impact Sport Bra Marika Tek- Artificial Reality Galaxy Print Capri Legging
I have to say I love them all, but I'm obsessed with the capris! I can't gush enough about them. The fabric is amazing, the fit is perfect, they have a key pocket in the waistband, and …

Tracking Progress: Goal Outfit VS The Scale

A while back NUX USA featured me as Inspirational Woman of the Week during their Fit Mom's Month. (A huge thank you to NUX for choosing me, I was honored).

As part of that they sent me a beautiful NUX outfit. Even though I was pregnant at the time and knew full well I wouldn't be my regular size immediately post-baby I chose to have them send it in my regular size.

Why?

To track my progress.

Yes, I weigh, I measure, I track my progress in many ways. But...

There's just nothing like having thatGOAL OUTFIT.
A goal outfit calls to me. It entices me in a way the scale cannot. "You know you want to wear me," it says. "We'll have such a wonderful time doing yoga together," it coaxes. "You and I are going to look so amazing together," it tempts. Somehow it manages to keep my mindset in a more positive place than scale watching.

A goal outfit also makes the finish line so much more tangible than some number floating out in space. I can see where I'm …

Body After Baby 12 Weeks Postpartum UPDATE

Holy. Cow. 12 weeks postpartum?! How did that happen?

It's definitely taken me much longer than I expected to get my, ahem, stuff together. But I feel like I'm finally in the groove and even... making progress!!

My stats: Weight: starting-196 current-195
Bust: starting-44 1/2 current-44
Waist: starting-37 current-37
Hips: starting-44 current-44
Clothing Size: starting-13/14 current-13/14
Hooray for progress. One pound down and 1/2 inch down, I'll take it!

I think my new-found forward momentum is mostly attributed to sleep. My little one is sleeping much better and usually only wakes once in the night. Sweet, beautiful sleep. It makes me feel like I can conquer the world! Well, at least this postpartum weight loss thing.

Round 2 of Body Revolution is going really well. It's just what I needed right now. The workouts are only 30 minutes, it's a structured/planned out program, and it's weights and cardio together. Perfect.

I've substituted runs for all of the cardio only…

Body Revolution for Beginners

Is Jillian Michael's Body Revolution for beginners?Would you recommend Body Revolution for a beginner? Can I modify Body Revolution to suit a more beginner fitness level? These are questions I've gotten a lot since blogging through Body Revolution last year.

Before I begin answering these questions I want to point out: I am not a doctor, trainer, or any type of health professional. What I am giving are my thoughts and opinions. Always check with your health care provider before beginning a new exercise program.
When I did Body Revolution for the first round I was at a more advanced fitness level. Straight from the beginning I was doing most of the moves at the most advanced level Jillian shows. Adding weights, jumping, whatever.
However, now I am doing Body Revolution again at a much diminished fitness level post-baby and feel better equipped to answer the questions on how people at a more beginner fitness level will fare with this program.
Here are my thoughts...

I do not think Bod…

Body Revolution - Round 2 #BodyAfterBaby #WhatsBeautiful #iWill

I've been loving the 30 Day Push Challenge (book and online) that I've been doing. It's really made me think hard about things in all areas of my life; from my health to my blog it's really brought focus.

Back in my life are things like goal-setting, to-do list making, and frog eating. I definitely recommend the book (I would say a bit more of a health/fitness/weight loss slant) or the online challenge (great for more general life-stuff).

One thing Chalene talks about in the book is a soulmate workout. Now, I'm one of those weirdos that enjoys working out. It's been really tough on me to feel out of shape to the point that I can't do the workouts I normally enjoy. So when thinking about a 'soulmate' workout I couldn't narrow it down.

Basically I love anything intense. HIIT, plyo, tabata, running (especially sprints or speed intervals), heavy weights... On and on. I couldn't pin one specific workout down.

Then today I had this thought: sometimes …

KETO Cocktails: The Lemon Drop

I love a good glass of red wine now and then, I mean it's practically a health food, right? ;) But sometimes I just want a cocktail. I'm all for moderation and having a drink now and then, but I'm just not down with the calorie, carb, and sugar counts of some of my favorites. Seriously, have you ever looked them up? Eek. So, I've set to work at converting my favorite cocktail recipes to be more keto diet friendly!

The first cocktail recipe I'm tackling is the keto lemon drop. I used to love these, but haven't had one in years because of the sugar in them. In my early twenties I had a friend who used to make them for me all the time. We would have a shaker full of these, a good dinner, and a chick flick on a weeknight, it was kind of bliss. Her recipe called for so. much. SUGAR though! Looking back I think she may have used a wee bit more sugar than most, but they were really good.

I think my keto-ized recipe comes pretty dang close to those delicious memories! It…

Paleo Peppermint Mocha Coffee Creamer Recipe

It's just not the holidays for me without a Starbucks peppermint mocha (or white chocolate peppermint mocha, mmm). I generally splurge once or twice during the holiday season with the real thing. Since going keto paleo, however, I'm not sure if I will. Sometimes the sugar just isn't worth it!

Problem is I like them, miss them, and would really enjoy them all season long!
So..... I decided I wanted to tackle the peppermint mocha and come up with Paleo-friendly version. With this simple recipe, I can have a peppermint mocha anytime.

Not only is this recipe Paleo, but it's also Whole30, gluten-free, vegan, primal, and 100% junk-free. Paleo Peppermint Mocha RecipeIngredients:
1 can Organic Canned Coconut Milk(Regular, NOT light. Seriously, ew.)
1/3 cup Organic Cocoa Powder
2 to 3 Tablespoons Organic Grade B Maple Syrup (Optional, leave out for keto or Whole30.)
1/2 to 1 teaspoon Organic Peppermint Extract(Depending how pepperminty you like it. I do 1/2 teaspoon)
1 teaspoon Organic …

30 Easy Prep and Pack Whole30 Lunch Recipes

The Whole30Program is amazing. I highly recommend it. Every time I've done a Whole 30 I have felt AMAZING by the end. It's a very empowering experience. It is not however an easy one. Mostly because the food prep can take much more time if you're used to grab and go options. A little planning ahead and you can definitely make it through the 30 days.

When it comes to Whole30 lunches, 3 things worked best for me:

Quick and easy salads.Prepping food on Sunday.Cooking too much at dinner and eating leftovers for lunch the next day.
I thought I'd share 30 of the awesome Whole30 lunch recipes I've found from my favorite bloggers (and a few from me!). I've included all three options I listed above. Some quick and easy salads, some to prep an entire recipe on the weekend and then portion them for lunches that week, and some to be cooked for dinner and the leftovers packed for lunch the next day. Play around and see what works best for you.

This list of 30 Whole30 Lunch Reci…

KETO Hot Cocoa Pancakes

OK, I know I've been on quite the low carb pancake tangent lately, but THESE! Seriously, these are yummtastic. Yummazing? Ya, they're really good. They just might be my favorite recipe I've ever done. Ever. OK, that might be my paleo apple crisp recipe, but that's not low carb...ooo, I wonder if I could tweak that low carb...

That would be brilliant!

You know, bloggers area always talking seo this and seo that (seo stands for search engine optimization if you're not a blogger) and I'm just over here yammering. I'm pretty sure when google's spider crawlers (anyone shiver at that word picture? eesh) get to FitViews they just think, "Yeesh, move along. Nothing to see here." Ha ha ha!

Anyway, pancakes. KETO Hot Cocoa Low Carb Pancakes no less. So good.

As I've mentioned before I'm back to low carb (keto actually) and developing new recipes to make it easier to stick with. I find I just plain feel great when I eat ketogenic, and I definitely h…

Easy Paleo Mashed Sweet Potatoes

Growing up the only encounter I had with sweet potatoes was at Thanksgiving dinner. I hesitate to even call them sweet potatoes though. They were more like sugar coated sugar, with a side of sugar. Seriously!
The recipe was to coat a baking dish in margarine, add diced sweet potatoes, top with more margarine and a healthy heaping of brown sugar. Bake. And then? At the end you top the whole thing with a bag of marshmallows and bake again.
Blech! Needless to say I was never fond of sweet potatoes.
When I first went paleo I decided to reacquaint myself with sweet potatoes. They’re a great paleo-friendly carb source. I must confess the thought made me shudder, but I persevered. I tried them simple. Baked. I was so shocked. They're so good!
Now, I love sweet potatoes. They’re a go-to side dish for family dinners. Not only are they delicious, but they’re good for us and easy to make. The funny thing about sweet potatoes is they taste amazing all on their own. When it comes to sweet potato r…

KETO Pumpkin Pie Cream Cheese Pancakes

I have gone back and forth with low carb since I was 24. I feel better when eating keto and I definitely have good progress with weight loss when I eat that way, but it can be a challenge to stick with. As I get older I find that the feeling better part of being low carb has become my driving motivation for sticking to it. I'm completely committed to keto now and that has me finding new ways to stick with it!

Ways such as keto pancakes. Say what-what? Yes. Low carb pumpkin pancakes no less. And? They're pretty darned yummy...

5 Egg Fast Pancake Recipes

I'm completely obsessed with keto egg fast pancakes lately. I've been cycling on and off an egg fast to try and get some traction again with my weight loss and we all know egg fasts can get pretty boring!

I thought I'd compile all of my egg fast pancake recipes into one easy post for my egg fasting brothers and sisters...

5 Keto Egg Fast Pancake Recipes1. First up, these Sweet Cinnamon Egg Fast Pancakes are completely delicious. They're an amazing option if you're tired of traditional low carb ways to have eggs. In describing all of my egg fast pancakes, I'd say they're maybe a tad bit crepe-like in consistency, more eggy. Definitely not the consistency of a traditional wheat flour pancake, but an amazing treat when you're egg-fasting! These Sweet Cinnamon KETO Pancakes are a seriously tasty addition. With only 4 grams of total carbs for the ENTIRE RECIPE, they'll fit nicely into your plan.

This recipe makes 3 or 4 decent sized pancakes and comes in at…
